Wouldn't it be cool to customize your own back plate for the GN similar to the limited edition GN's being passed out at google? OR at least have options on some pre customized templates to buy. One can only wish.

What would you like to have on yours if you could customize?

Maybe if they sell enough of them some company will make some different ones? It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult.

I suggested custom battery doors a few days ago. I figured anything from a composite plastic or rubberized plastic to machined aluminum or titanium if you really wanted to get crazy.

Got shot down though. Seems like it could be a good Kickstarter project, even if the GN doesn't become popular with the masses and it's a small scale thing.

Took lembowski's advice and used plastic dip on my battery covers. I did the cover for the standard battery first, because I use the extended battery... and just in case it turned out bad or I didn't like it, I could still use the cover for the extended battery for either.

It hides the branding a bit, but you can still see the silhouette. It looks much better overall in my opinion. The contrast of the black cover against the gray body looks nice. I took pictures showing it with each cover on it.

I think it has a much better feel to it as well. Definitely no longer "slick". I have since also sprayed the extended battery cover with Plastic Dip as well.

Easy $5.00 mod.

Just an FYI, I forgot to wipe the cover down with alcohol first and it didn't adhere very well. It peeled up a bit on one edge from friction caused by my finger sliding on it while installing the cover multiple times.

Once I saw it, I just wanted it gone. I was able to peel the entire coating off by rubbing it on the edge until enough came up to grab. Then I peeled it like a bad sunburn.

May need to sand the surface of the cover to get proper adhesion. A bit reluctant though, that's a point of no return action. We'll see.

Hey Oxymoron, I've never actually found a member with the extended battery, so I've got a couple questions:

Is it true that the regular battery door still fits the extended? That would be amazing!

If not, will a hard case still fit with the extended battery on?

Thanks!

I've read people say that the standard cover fits with the extended battery, but that's not been my experience. While it does go on, it does not "fit" properly. It distorts the shape of the cover slightly where the edge of the thicker battery makes contact with the cover. It does go on, but I wouldn't say it's ideal. The cover for the extended battery will work with either battery though.

As far as cases, I can't say. I don't use them. I can say that the extended battery with cover fits perfectly in the windshield dock. I've actually never used the standard battery and cover in the windshield dock. I've been using the extended battery since day one.

The cover for the extended battery seems to feel better in the hand as well. With the rounded edges, and smoother transition to the "hump" at the base of the phone, it feels more ergonomically correct in my hand. If I swap out batteries, I'll still use this cover for that reason.
