The wallpaper size of your phone is always the height + 2x the width.

Galaxy Nexus is 1280x720, so double the 720 and you get 1280x1440.

Galaxy S II is 800x480, so double the 480 and you get 800x960. :)

That way if you ever get a new Android phone with a different resolution, it's really easy to figure out for yourself.

Man, I'm having a fun time locating portrait-layout wallpapers, sized as 1280 x 1440. Loads of landscape wallpapers out there, but I don't use my phone like a tablet, lol.

I guess I'm going to have to find larger sized wallpaper images, then crop them to 1440 x 1280 portrait layout using an editor...

No, they should be in landscape. 1440 horizontal, 1280 vertical. That's for when you scroll from homescreen to homescreen, the wallpaper moves with it.

Where is the best place to get wallpapers? Is there one that looks black with the google in the middle like the boot screen?

yep - i just tested and confirmed this morning that it is definitely 1440x1280. and if you are cropping an image for wallpaper - set the exact center of your image at the intersection of pixels 720 and 640. i use the MS Paint ruler for this.
