Default How do transfer aol contacts to Nexus

I had no trouble transferring my phone account contacts but cannot figgure out how to transfer my aol email contacts. The guy at the Verizon store told me it can't be done. He said I will have to transfer the aol contacts to the google account and use gmail from now on. Can that be correct? Any help will be appreciated. thanks. . .

hey bill66s. . .I have an aol account as well, I don't know a direct way to import, what I did was go into my contacts in my aol account, then did an "export" to a .csv file, save file on my computer, then created a gmail account (if you don't already have one), go to your contacts in gmail, click "more" then "import" navigate to the .csv file you saved on your computer and import into gmail account.

Go to your gnex, and add that gmail account and then sync the contacts and that should bring them all in.

It sounds like a lot of work, but once you do it, you don't have to do it again. . .hope that helps.

yep export to csv file format then import that into your Gmail account contacts. Then run the merge/duplicate option. You're good!

Thanks for the help, but I still have a bit of a problem. I saved my AOL contacts to the csv file on the desk top then moved them into my gmail account. But now I am unable to find the merge/duplicate option on the gnex.
I currently have contacts on the gnex which I transferred from my old phone but they are phone contacts only. When I use the people app they are the only contacts that appear and I can't find the merge option. Am I looking in the wrong place?

The merge option is in Gmail contacts on your computer. As for contacts only on your phone, not sure why that is even an option these days. You may have to go into each duplicate, edit, then menu, hit join the it will give up recommended contacts to join with the one you are in.

Thanks. . I got the contacts transferred although some names didn't come through. One last question. . .Now that the contacts are on the gnex, when I start to address an email shouldn't a list of likely names pop up after a couple of letters are typed in?

I am new to this so I apologize if this is super basic. If I follow these instructions to import my AOL contacts, when I use the email app on the nexus 7, will it be from my AOL account or gmail? Thank you.
