My Nexus arrived - but I am still getting texts on my old phone

Ported my number to Verizon from ATT.

All went well, aside from the one DOA phone that arrived first.

Today, my second phone arrived and is all set up. I can send texts and make calls. I cannot make calls on my ATT phone.

However, when I send a text from my new Nexus, it arrives as it should - but the replies go to my old phone, which shows "No Service" up top.

Further, a friend texted me after the switch and it showed up on the old phone but not the new.

Any ideas?

Have you tried contacting the carriers and seeing if there was a problem in the transfer of your service?

I'm surprised you even have your old phone turned on. My Droid X was turned off as soon as I got a newer phone, and it has remained off.

Good point - but I did plug it in when I got home. Just heard it buzz which drew my attention to it.

What ATT phone did you have? Also, sometimes GSM carriers cause dual-service issues like this after the number is ported. (Usually for 24 hours or less)

On the iPhone were you using iMessage though?

Yes, I was.

But I also received a text from someone using an android phone on a new conversation.

Could turning that off make texts appear on my nexus?

You need to turn imessage off, then wipe your iPhone. If you don't, it'll still get texts there.

I take it iMessages are sent over the net rather than 3G.

How did my non-iPhone friend reach me?

That one was probably dual service. The IPhone ones would have been iMessage related.

Use this link to check and see if your port is completed (I'm guessing it's not).

What you've described are common side effects when the port is 'in progress'.

If it's been over 24 hours, call customer service. They'll be able to transfer you to the activation dept who can push it through with a couple mouse clicks.

I had similar behavior and after 24 hours (the maximum duration for the port to go through), I gave them a call and was up and running in minutes.

Also. Turn off your iPhone! The port will not complete properly if the old phone is on!

Yep, iMessage. Same thing happened to me. I didn't have to wipe my iPhone though. iMessage is associated with your iTunes email I think, and there's some place in settings to remove that association.
