It is Google+ but as far as I can tell you can not initiate a hangout on the phone itself

ok, my wife's rezound gives me an option to do video but i can't see anything on my nexus. so how are you guys doing this?

Google+ for some reason didn't show up in my apps in the market. You have to search it then manually update. There is a check box to auto update you may want to check while you're there.

the problem i was having was that after searching for "google +", i was expecting it to show up as needing an update. i need to click on the "google +" (where is showed only as installed) and then click update. i am just spelling this out for all those as dense as me

Then the weird thing is that you have to start a conversation first before you are able to initiate a hangout.
