User ringtones go in /sdcard/Ringtones, notifications go in /sdcard/Notifications.

Actually the can go anywhere, you just have to choose music instead of system.
I have a few songs I use as ringtones that are in /my music/artist name.

Yep. This, too. I usually make my own ringtones (not full tracks), so I just store them in the system locations and keep them out of my music folders.

Found this thread while googling for some info. Is it possible to set a ringtone per contact without using apps like WhoIsIt? I'd think a feature like that should be built into an OS by now.

    Thanks!

In People you can choose a contact, hit menu button, then set ringtone.

Thank you! I was hoping that I was missing something. I sure did!

Thanks for the answer, but I haven`t had any File app on ma` Nexus preinstalled.
Now, when I downloaded the Astro File Manager / Browser from Google Play everything is much easier.
