Does setting the mobile network to CDMA vs LTE/CDMA lengthen battery life? Just FYI I don't have LTE in my area anyway so I'll probably just keep it on CDMA only, but just wondering.

yes it does, LTE uses more battery than the cdma....

It will kill it quicker if you lived in a 4g area as it would bounce between 3 and 4. Since you don't have 4g the phone won't even try so it won't really matter for you.

I'm new to android and 4G, however, I've found that if I leave LTE on in an area that I have very strong LTE signal, my battery lasts an insane amount of time. I'm talking about taking it off the charger at 10am and being down to only 70% 5 hours later, whereas if i'm in an area like my work, where I get spotty LTE, I will have to put it on the charger after 5 hours..

Im just finding out the LTE was really killing my battery. Im in an LTE area. And Im always on Wifi but would keep LTE on. I figured it wouldnt mess with LTE since Im on wifi. Well all I know is when I switched it to CDMA with Wifi on, I have 58% battery after 8 in a half hours right now. Phone off the charger at like 5:30am. Normally I wouldve been down to that type of percentage at like 6 hours.

If you are only in a 3g area leaving lte on will not kill the battery since it will not be searching for lte signal.

I've noticed the phone seems to get hotter on CDMA than LTE. To me this would mean that CDMA.is draining the battery faster.

That seems strange, I know 3 people with a nexus, myself included and the only real time it gets hot is if I am charging it and playing on it at the same time for awhile.

Could be that you have a stronger LTE signal than CDMA...

How do you figure? Does the LTE tower ping every phone when its within distance and tells it to activate?

No. The phone searches for the signal. How would it know not to search for LTE?

Yes, definitely turn LTE off if you're not in a 4G area

I agree with iBowToAndroid. My mom's shop has no 4G there. If I leave 4G on while I'm there, it drains the battery pretty quickly even while I'm not using it. If I turn it off, I get pretty good standby time.

Sweet I've just kept it on CDMA only and its been OK, although from all the reviews out there for the nexus I sort of expected a little mote out of the battery. Most reviews I've read say they get 24-36 hours with moderate use, and from what I consider moderate use I'm only getting max 12 hours. Maybe I just have a skewed view of what moderate use is, oh well. I seem to be getting a little more using juice defender, maybe the extended battery will add another hour or two and make it a little more bearable, otherwise love the device

I've been wondering about this: is LTE essentially GSM based, like AT&T and TMo 3G, or are there significant differences with the radios (other than the speed and capacity)?

Agreed...when using it when charging is only time I'd say it gets hot!
