Ok so the Gnex has been working awesome then all of a sudden no 3g what so ever. All over Michigan no 3G. However i get 4g. Sim in another phone and i get 3g and 4g. Reset the sim, toggled networks hard reset you name it and nothing no 3g.

So Verizon is sending me a "Referb" yay cant wait to send my flawless phone back for one that's been beat to hell. And then get one of the phones that had other problems so i can enjoy them as well.

Yet another problem all you people with working Gnex's can look forward to.

Referb does not always mean beat to hell. I'm sure this phone was returned during this long return period from people who just didn't like it. Hopefully you get one of them. A day old nexus someone thought they would love but didn't. Still stinks but what can you do.

Odd, my data just quit working this morning. No 3G or 4G, voice and wifi work fine. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support and then another hour in the Verizon store for reset, new sim, etc. Refurb phone on the way and I'm feeling sick that my perfect condition phone is going to be replaced with someone else s problem.

how can you be sure you're getting a refurb? also isn't there a distinction between a refurb and a phone without issues that was returned for a different model?

I have a new GN in the mail from verizon, I hope I don't get a used phone :( mine was dropping data left and right.

My data has been fine in Bay City and hope it stays that way, sorry to hear your having issues. From my experiences with Referbs is that they appear to be a new phone, I have never had any scratches or any physical damage and if they did I would send it back ASAP. Hope you get a good one like I have had :)

In my past experiences, Refurbs have always served better than brand new. The case/housing is always brand new on refurbs, and only the guts are re-used. And they get QA'd, vs new devices where only samples from large batches get the QA treatment.

I wouldn't worry a month after the phone has been out. Now if this was 8-10 months after I would say you have a chance of getting a crap one. I got a replacement phone for a phone my daughter had that was out for a while and there was crud in some of the seems and it was not in good condition. It was disgusting.

Well it just randomly started working again.

DenverRalphy thanks for telling me that. I was worried i would get someone phone like the mac book airs on craigslist that look like people used them to jack their car up with.

For the record this was the first drop of data i every had. I always had a 3g or 4g signal however crappy it may have been. Then all of a sudden whoops no 3g. Checked my Razr and it had a 3g connection then i spent about 6 hours of trying out stuff re flashing roms and kernels pulling the sim out and what not and nothing. Then it just got a connection.

Oh well i'll be going over the replacement phone with a fine tooth comb. and let you guys know how it is but i'll prob just send it back and keep mine so it can give me some more crap.

However Verizon was pretty good. Few phone calls. Tier 1 was useless and a few tards would not even send me to Tier 2 despite notes on my ticket. At lunch i got on the phone with them and got sent to a Tier 2 data specialist who i explained what i did and that i have a bachelors in Electronics Engineering and she was stumped on why it would just lose 3G and still have everything else. So she just sent me out a replacement and it was sent out today and i should have it tomorrow. All and all about 15-20min on the phone about 5 of them with the Data specialist i had a replacement so im pretty happy with the support from Tier 2.

Seems odd.. Why didn't you exchange it for a new one where you bought it within the 30 days if you were experiencing issues?

From the best android phone PERIOD. Galaxy Nexus.

Refurbs are hardly ever referbs. Especially when the device is so new. They purchase handsets without packaging, battery, battery door, etc. Out of say 15 refurbs ive gotten in my life i never received an actual refurb. They save em for the people looking to purchase a refurb when opening their contract.

Its usually the highest returned products where you might actually get a refurb. Specifically phones like the Thunderbolt or Bionic you have a good chance of getting one. I've also never gotten one. If I've had an issue, my local store will just swap it out in-store for a new one for me.

Replacement came today. My Gnex is back to working with 3G..So im debating wither or not to send mine back and keep this one or send this one back and keep mine. Looks new has the stock screen guard that came on mine when it was new. Anyone know if they put those back on when they referb?

The "usual" cause of this is due to Verizon's eHRPD network being temporarily down. When it comes back up (or gets repaired) you have 3G again, along with 4G when expected. On the Thunberbolt you can mitigate this behavior by changing your configuration to use the older RevA 3G network rather than than the eHRPD network. Don't know if the GNex has a config for that.
