Screen doesn't show up all the time when I press power button

When I press the power button to wake up the screen, it doesn't always like to stay on. It either flickers on or it turns on then off. I am running ROM 4.3 Open source. It also did this with Axiom. So is there a way to fix this?

I believe that is typically a problem with the kernel. Used to happen to me some of the time on my OG Droid. Haven't had any issues with my Nexus, even when I was running a 4.0.3 ROM.

It's not really a problem, however, it does get really annoying.

I have that issue and I am stock.

I had to have my Nexus replaced due to complete power switch failure. There is a previous thread on it. Sounded like it maybe a problem on Samsung phones. My replacement has been great so far......fingers crossed!
