Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
Anyone who's used 4.0.2 for a few weeks and now uses 4.0.4, how much has it improved? I see a bunch of people saying it's so much better now, but after seeing several screenshots on XDA, it looks like only standby time has really improved.
I don't care if you can get almost 2 days on a charge if the screen has only been on for an hour and a half and the rest is standby time. I can get about 2-2.5 hours of continuous use on 4.0.2 with the 2100mAh extended battery and 4G off. That's really bad IMO. That's the main reason I still carry my iPhone 4 around. When I'm near Wi-Fi, I'd rather use my iPhone because the battery lasts a lot longer and I like to save my GN's battery. I still wouldn't give up my GN for any other phone but the battery life is a real bummer.
Anyone on 4.0.4 that uses their phone for several hours a day, how long are you getting with the screen on?Thanked by: - 02-10-2012, 01:35 PM #2
Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
Sorry I don't have screenshots to back this up. I'm using the 2100mAh batter, but I keep 4G on all day.
My typical day consists of 1+ hour train ride, during which I listen to Google Music (local files only), read Comics via Perfect Viewer and text constantly. With 4.0.2 I would get ~6hrs usage before going below 25% and charging my phone for the ride home.
I installed 4.0.4 a week ago, and have seen a substantial increase in battery performance. With the same usage I now am at ~6 hrs and 48% battery left, Screen on time is 41 min autobright. With WiFi on, and minimal usage (mostly just texting and checking email) I've gotten 16 hrs and still had 50% battery left.
Hope this helps. - 02-10-2012, 02:39 PM #3
Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
2 hours with constant use? Your having an issue with your battery it seems. On 4.0.2 with moderate use which includes a couple pictures, browsing the web for about an hour a day and using twitter all day I would get about 8.5 hours with 4G on all day. Now with 4.0.4 with the exact same usage I'm getting about 11-12 hrs depending on calls. I also keep brightness at 50% exactly in settings. In using the stock battery it comes with as well.

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
It's not an issue with my battery because I had the original battery and now the extended battery. Both are about the same, with the extended giving me just a little bit extra power.
I'm talking about 2-2.5 hours of the screen being on. Where I take it off the charger and I don't turn it off until I have to plug it back in, which is about 2 hours later. My iPhone 4 will get about 6 hours doing the same thing. Granted that's over Wi-Fi and it doesn't have such a large screen to power, but that's still almost 3x the battery life with a much smaller battery. - 02-10-2012, 05:30 PM #5

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
Sounds to me like there's an issue with your phone. I've played games on my phone, Shadow Gun/Riptide GT, for over 4 hours non-stop with the standard battery and still got another hour to 2 hours out of my phone before it warns me that I need to plug it in. Using it as I normally do; email, texts, web surfing, and calls nets me over 8 hours per charge. All of this is done on 4G.

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
right now i have 36% charge left and 1 hr 58 min screen time. Thats including 31 mins in phone calls which suck down the power a lot more then i thought they would and im on 4.0.4 i was on stock for 3 weeks and then switched to gummy saturday morning and then that night 4.0.4 was leaked or whatever u would call that strange set of events. (afaik only one person copied the files over and i havnt heard about a soak test or any other users getting this OTA) Screen on time is indirectly improved by more standby time. Also the speed of the update is nuts. It feels like iOS smooth. (i owned an iPhone for 2 months untill i sold it and went back to my OG droid... I should have gotten the thunderbolt lol.) For me this 4.0 was a huge step ahead and this update itself brings it so much more closer to perfection and its 95% under the hood. Also this update has helped me a ton with 4G, I get better reception and radio swithing. I was in lowes 2 weeks ago and didnt have any 4G and 3G was about 2-3 bars this time i had 2 bars 4G this week and I confirmed it with a speed test.
EDIT: the only things i wish is that google would add profiles for sounds and ringtones for notifications and calls from ppl and even separate them at that level. I would like to see faster blinks with the LED and some built in LED customization, but out over everything this phone is still quieter then any phone I have ever hadLast edited by tekjunkie28; 02-10-2012 at 05:52 PM.

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
Maybe not an issue with your battery since your gettting the same life with 2 different batteries, but rather your phone. Like the guy after said, I can keep my phone screen on and use it for many hours before it dies. I did a 1.5 hour drive back to my house where i was in the back seat streaming a starcraft game with Flash in the browser. 1.5 hours of streaming and my battery went from 88% to 59%. That is on 4G too. So your def havign an issue with ur phone. I would recommend a factory reset or possibly even replacing it.

No idea how you did that. Any time someone's posted screenshots of their battery life, I've never seen more than 3 hours of the screen on. Not sure how it's my phone when other people are getting the same battery life as me.
Same as above. And I said my battery life was a little bit better on the extended battery. I mean it's only 250mAh more so it's not like the extended battery gives you much of a boost anyway. - 02-10-2012, 08:14 PM

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
The one day + with 3 some hours was a very good day. I always get between 3 and 4 hours of screen on time and usually no less than 13 or 14 hours of total time up to a day +. I have syncing on, a bunch of widgets, phone set to cdma/lte.....although I am just outside of a 4 g area. I do spend about 25% of my time on 4g, 35% on 3g, and the other 40% on wifi. Screen is on auto. I tend to surf the net alot, play some angry birds, use the facebook and youtube apps, listen to some music and make a few phone calls on an average day. Some days if Im watching netflix movies or hitting navigation really hard Ill throw it on the charger in the car while I run around and that will get me through just like an average day.

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
I am still on 4.0.2, and I was getting abysmal battery life. I did a factory reset, and my battery is lasting most of the business day with really not anything throttled. I think I had an application or applications that were the cause of my woes. Also, at home on wireless battery life is actually pretty darn good.

Re: Battery Life 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4
If I flash 4.0.4 and don't install a kernel or anything, just keep it stock, will I have to revert back to the old 4.0.2 OS in order to receive OTA's or will I be okay with the 4.0.4 ROM and still be able to receive OTA's?
