Honestly, how is the GN?

I have a blackberry now, but am thinking of getting a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon)...smart move or no?

Here's my issue. I mainly use my phone for texting and a LOT of emails. Corp emails. I get emails all throughout the day and night (since I work in IT). Is there a way to have no alerts for emails, except if certain people email me. Can easily do this on the blackberry, but was never able to accomplish this on Gingerbread. Not sure if ICS is different. I need to know when my boss or co-workers email me, but don't need to know every time an automated alert comes to my inbox (especially during the night)

I'd like to same ability for text messages too.

Is it possible, or should I get a new blackberry instead?

Sounds like your a Blackberry user. Usually you should go with what works. The device that suits your jobs needs. With that said I am not aware of any corporate email problems yet. Check Google.

You can do individualized alerts in Tasker, but I don't think that ability is native to ICS.

There are apps that allow you to do just about everything in Android, though I can't rattle them off for you because I don't do what you're wanting. The thing about any Android phone is that it's different from BB. Everything is faster and the app options are nearly endless (most all that you'll want are free). Battery life is never as good as BB, because everything is faster and that cost juice. If you'll accept that things will not be the same, I think you'll consider the move one of your best tech decisions of the decade. I know I could never go back to BB.

As far as the GNex is concerned, it's the best phone I've ever owned. If needed a new device today, it's the only one I would consider.

Like many here, I use Light Flow to control notifications and you could do exactly what you are describing.

couldnt agree more.. My company uses GOOD for work emails. While the app has its flaws, i get all my work emails timely and you dont have to log into the app to see the emails if its night time or the weekend. BB's enterprise is without question the best but if you are also going to use your phone for personal then the G nex is the best phone on the market.

Not worried about receiving emails, as I know the android/iPhones were great with ActiveSync.

The alerts are my only issue, so thanks for the tip on Light Flow. I'm going to check that application out in the Android Market now.

That's all I was looking for, just names of apps that can accomplish this, if ICS couldnt. I should have been more specific.

I've never had a BB but I've recently switched from years of iPhone using, and could not be happier, seriously the best phone I've ever had...i have only two gripes, the first being videos sent via mms, i can't find a way to save them or forward them. The second being group sms/mms if i set up a group i only get the replies individually, same goes for when people reply to group messages i receive (if that makes sense)...very annoying
