Re: tethering w/o hotspot plan, got caught anyone?
I was traveling, at a hotel w/balky wifi and also wanted to access secure accounts. I did wireless tethering for a lmited amount of time and saw nothing in my bill about it. As others have posted, it seems like if you don't abuse this or data use in general you might be ok. I would not use the free tether as a substitute for regular access on a laptop. I used widgizoid.

I use FoxFi which is a free wireless tethering app. I have used about 1 gb of data from tethering since I got it about 2 months ago and have had no issues with VZN about it. I use it primarily to tether my girlfriend's ipod while we are out and she gets bored, or to tether my work laptop when a secure connection is required and I dont have an available access point.

The ICS hotspot feature will be disabled if you havent payed for it from verizon because it checks for a subscription before allowing you to configure the connection. Just find an app that will work for you, much easier unless you intend on rooting your phone and loading a custom ROM that has that feature unlocked.

Re: tethering w/o hotspot plan, got caught anyone?
I use some.random wifi toggle widget from the market. I use about 25gb a month total with 15 of that being from tethering. I don't have good internet at my house so I use NY phone. So far no issues had Gnex since launch.
