Re: How are the new radios?
Good to know. I am in the same boat as you. I'm on my 2nd GN which is improved for sure, but I still get drops out of nowhere when 4G is active. On 3G, I don't seem to have the mobile network failures.
I'm going to hang on just a bit longer and keep working with my GN, but I am glad to hear that Amazon Wireless is willing to work with folks as I got mine there too. - 05-02-2012, 12:52 PM #32

Re: How are the new radios?
All I want is for the phone to quit having the microphone cut out and for it to quit having that ridiculous screeching sound during calls. I loved it besides that. I could handle the 4G/3G handoff.
Does anyone know if the microphone/screeching sound is fixed with these radios? - 05-02-2012, 02:55 PM #36
Re: How are the new radios?
The only difference I can see is the 3G/4G hand off. Otherwise the signal strength/quality for this phone is still sub par. Have my friend's RAZR MAXX sitting next to my GNex and the MAXX has 3 solid bars of 4G. My GNex bounces between 1 and 2 bars of 3G. As someone else around here mentioned and as I have believed from the start; it's a hardware issue and no amount of software releases will fix this. It's a shame cause I really, really like this damn phone.

There was a rather technical thread earlier this year basically saying that visual bars don't mean anything regarding signal strength. It was also flat out stated by Samsung that this patch would essentially add an extra bar of signal for visual purposes only. Compare the before and after dbm, everything else is placebo.

Yep, signal STILL sucks. Last Samsung phone I ever buy, and I stayed away from Motorola because of the locked boot loader. My droid x never had signal issues and neither does the razar.

Re: How are the new radios?
Has anyone experienced an issue where when the phone goes out of wifi and picks up a 3G signal that the data bars turn from blue to gray and stay gray? An airplane mode switch or quick switch from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only fixes it for anywhere between a few hours to 18 hours or so. I reboot also resolves it for another 12-18 hours. This issue was in 4.0.2, the IMM30B and this latest build as well.
If I never use wifi the phone does not exhibt this behavior, the bars go gray as they should during a phone call and then shortly after the call turn blue again. - 05-02-2012, 06:14 PM #42
Re: How are the new radios?
Looks improved thus far, showing 4 bars of signal (although I was in a strong area to begin with)
Quantitatively, I'm at 75 dbs where I used to run from 80-100
Qualitatively, not a huge difference. I noticed significantly better (?placebo) phone conversations on the leaked 4.0.4 radios but I never had signal dropout even on the 4.0.2 radios or had to switch in and out of airplane mode to get my phone to reconnect its datastream
I think it would be interesting for me to go to some of my usual poor signal spots (work/weekend hangouts) and see what the new flashed radios mean for signal there - 05-02-2012, 06:25 PM #43
I'm about to call tomorrow to see if I can get a maxx

Re: How are the new radios?
Almost 24 hours with the new radios I'm thinking the old leaked were better, signal is about the same but battery is taking a beating, same usage today as usual week day and had to change the extended battery 1.5 to 2 hours sooner (not sure exactly but in that ballpark). Usually would still have 40% on the second one at this point but I'm at 24% and I had it on the charger for a bit, was at 14% 3 hours ago. Going to give it a couple more days but if this continues these won't remain on my phone.
