Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
Well now I have a choice to make in a week. I bought a new Gnex this last weekend so I am in the 14 day period to give it back. I upgraded with VZW because I have an unlimited plan. Now if they want to push me off of it in 2 years fine. But if this summer I get a mail that says sorry your no longer have that plan I'm probably just gonna sign a contract with ATT and stop payment on the contract as far as I'm concerned they'll have breached their end. Send it to collections lol that number'll be canceled.

I spoke w/a rep he said a lot of reps are flipping out 'cause they're on unlimited too & thinks this will happen in Sept. He also said if you get a 4G before then & you keep your number you can remain on unlimited until you update, like I'm supposed to believe him. Sure the contract writes Red can do whatever it wants when it wants but since day one (years) I've always had unlimited, now having a new phone I'm going to have to throw this one in the pile of other bought phones & give those some more C notes so they can again use us as guinea pigs & get richer. I sure am tired of sitting backwards on a horse while the horse keeps walking into the desert trying to get that water tied to it's head. Do you think I can write these off in taxes? Geesh.

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
Verizon isn't going to switch up your plan in the middle of the contract. I am sure they can add fees but they aren't stupid enough to change the plan midway through a contract. Imagine what they would be in for if they did that. You will have to change your plan if you upgrade your phone after the grandfathered unlimited data plans go away. You can avoid it by either paying full price for a phone that you want or you go to another carrier when your plan is up. Knowing how I am, I am more than likely going to start saving money up to pay full price for a phone. I will be on an unlimited data plan until the end of time...

Hypothetical situation: So you go month to month. You are no longer under contract. You have completed your obligation to Verizon. At the same time, Verizon has completed their obligation to you. Since you are not under contract, Verizon technically wouldn't have to offer you the same terms, would they? You'd be out of contract and if you didn't like the terms, you'd be free to leave without monetary penalty.
It could happen.

That's basically the situation I'm in right now... I'm going from a Dinc2 to a Nexus not to mention my own account (cutting the umbilical cord from the parents) and I'm getting to keep my unlimited data and I'm eligible for an upgrade so I have that perk.... But as for now I'm on a month to month basis... If and when this "grandfathered data plan" is not longer available from Verizons end... I'll be screwed once upon use my upgrade and start a new contract.

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
Maybe. If thats the case, they could have done that when they rolled out their tiered data plans. I was eligible for an upgrade and at the same time I was still using the same phone on the same plan. I had to pay a deductible for my OG Incredible when it got dropped on the ground and the screen cracked. Asurion replaced it with the Droid Incredible 2. I didn't sign a new contract. They didn't change it then. What's the difference now?

Let's go back in time shall we. Vzw gets iPhone and makes a lot of deals. Customer get screwed. What 3g smart is getting lte this fall........waiting OK I'll tell its iPhone 5 lte and guess that's a lot iPhones being upgraded to 4g so what will vzw do what any carrier would stick the user and say by by unlimited data. And family data will save every one money. Will it? Currently 10gb is $80 I use 20gb a month on my nexus streaming TV shows from my house. I have a mifi with 10gb plan I use 8gb then I stop using I have a bionic with 8gb and use 4gb for 30$. My data bill alone is $140 a month. If vzw can provide me with a family data bundle of 30 gb for $100 I'd b OK. But I don't see it happening in the end I and lot of power users will b shafted. Thank you Apple for messing up my life.

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
It wouldn't surprise me if they did it before the release of GS3. Been holding off on upgrading for it but now I'm thinking maybe I should renew now. (assuming they will not change customers on contract mid term). The only problem is there's no phone on Verizon right now that I want. I suppose I could just take a Razr Maxx and just sell it to apply the proceeds for a GS3 off contract when it comes out.

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
I just hope that Verizon announces these plans soon. The sooner they announce these plans the sooner people like us in the forums will be able to make a decision on what they will do. I think pretty much all of us are going to use the unlimited data as long as they can but I think Verizon will be doing its customers a huge favor and announce these plans sooner rather than later. I have a theory that Verizon doesn't even know what they will do regarding these plans. Just my guess...
@workMakin$ - 05-16-2012, 08:47 PM #38
Isn't Asurion a third-party? You didn't have to sign a new contract.
My situation was completely hypothetical. The point I was trying to make is that if you're not under contract, what would stop Verizon from changing the terms on you the following month?

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
I'm guessing if your eligible for an upgrade and just with a regular plan not "LOCKED" in to a contract as part of an upgrade, meaning you can cancel at anytime without penalty they could say the service that we are providing is no longer available. Move to one of our new plans.
But if you are locked in to a contract where you can't leave of X amount of months, can they change the service provided and amount you pay for that. Hypothetical unrealistic example to show a point could they the month after you get in a contract say you now only get 1gig for $200 a month sorry that's what we offer and your still stuck with it?
I have no problems with I signed on the line for 2 years and the month after my two years is up having to decide on a current plan. I could choose to stay with one of their plans or go with someone else. What I do object to is them saying your still locked in and we're changing what you get and your rates.
I'm not talking nutz here, normally I'm about 500meg-1gig a month. Tried the 4g video the other day just to see it. Will do that more on wifi because of battery anyways but just wanted to see it done. Now in 5 day's I've used up 750 meg. I'll realistically be 1.2-.4 by the end of the month but still. More of the principal of the thing. Say I wanted to go on a trip and watch Netflix in the airport while waiting. Kinda defeats the purpose of having high speed if you can't actually use it.
Maybe they'll have you get X gig a month but you roll over unused to the next month up to a certain cap or something. If the stated goal of this is to get all your devices on the same data plans they need to give enough room for that to happen. I'm not going to roll a tablet in too a 2gig phone plan. Their just not enough room bandwidth wise to cover several devices on the same pool unless they up the plan limit by a decent amount. - 05-16-2012, 08:59 PM #43
For me a smartphone is a hobby.I will leave vzw regardless if its true.If I cant find another plan on another carrier that keeps me at my current price then its hello dumb phone .

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
That's the other thing I was thinking of. Just cancel the data portion of the plans. Use just the minutes on the phone. When you are at work or home with Wifi or one of the multitude of hot spots around use Wifi and just drop mobile data all together. Personally I use it at work communicate with the other techs with gtalk. We can do that fine with Wifi and same with email.

Re: VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)
Ohh well guess it's a dumb phone then with a mini tablet. I saw today several of them them are in the works Phablets I think they were referred to.
In the end it's all gonna come down to competition. They will have to offer a service at a price point that's competitive to what others are offering. If not they loose customers. If they give a package with 10gig or so for a family plan where you can get the wife and kids on there for a reasonable price then cool. If not it's shop for new carrier time. It's not hard. We'll just have to see what they offer.
Still gonna be pissed if they force a change mid term though. - 05-16-2012, 09:15 PM #48
I hope they do this I can cancel my plan for free. On the papers it says you can cancel your plan if any price on your bill have changed cuz of them
