Overheating on 4.0.4

When I'm in an area of bad coverage, my Nexus now turns into a fireball. Sure, I get a crappy 3G connection where I used to get none at all, but on the 4.0.4 radios, my phone sets itself on fire to try to keep the data connection going strong.

As soon as I get to the basement of my building, the phone is practically destroying itself just to say 3G up at the top, even though it still doesn't load any pages anyway!

Any suggestions?

Use WiFi and make sure it's on CDMA only. It will overheat trying to find signal, particularly when it's forcing the issue.
