I have never heard anyone talk about how less secure or safe a rooted or unlocked Gnex is vs. Stock. When taking the plunge is it more likely that your phone will be compromised via a bad Rom or surfing the web. I wouldn't want my banking and passwords to be stolen because of rooting and unlocking a sweet stock phone.

While a custom ROM can have security holes, so can (and does...) the stock ROM. There hasn't been an exploit of large magnitude on Android yet, and Google seems to be safeguarding the Play Store much more effectively now.

basically, don't download apps you don't trust, and you'll be fine. I don't believe any web exploit has happened yet, so don't worry about that.
