    Default GNex Camera

I don't think people should knock the GNex camera. Took this tonight with it. Local TV station put it on their FB page and it has 370 Likes. Also won the Android Central photo contest about a month ago with a flower picture. Camera is great, just need to know how to use it.

I agree. A lot of people criticize the 5 megapixel camera and make it look terrible on the Galaxy Nexus. Despite this though, I liked the camera on my Galaxy Nexus and have no idea why people don't like the camera. Who knows. Maybe they just can't appreciate the camera, or maybe it's entirely physiological because it is 5 megapixels instead of 8 megapixels after all :P

Yep it's been great for me. I don't know much about cameras but I know MP doesn't mean much in terms of camera quality.

Everybody gets dazzled by specs. 12 MP is better than 5 MP. Not necessarily. 7.1 surround sound is better than 5.1. Maybe not. 1080p 3D is better than vanilla 1080p. Again, not necessarily.

My old Fascinate had a 5 MP shooter that was amazing. I don't know for sure but I suspect my GNex has similar hardware. I've been very happy with it.

Did you use all automatic settings?

There was a pretty nice pic that won the AC photo contest a few weeks back.

    I think it's in here:

Most of the time it's not the camera, but the person taking the picture. A lot of people spend tons of money on a DSLR and still can't figure out why they can't take a decent, in-focus pic.

Proper exposure and composition are the keys to turning a "snapshot" into a photograph.

The London Eye! Did you take the ride? We rode it at sunset last fall and it was amazing.

I did use the auto-setting. Tapped to focus, and took the shot.

This actually isn't the London (which is great though), this is the new Ferris Wheel that is being built on the Seattle waterfront.

I never seem to be able to take a crisp clear shot. I even try to tuck my arms in as if holding a dslr but I feel for me holding the small phone coupled with touching the screen to shoot make it difficult to take crisp shots.

My only complaint about the gnex camera is the horrible white balance in flash shots.

I have the gnex, I'm still knocking on it
It takes so much effort to get a crisp and good looking shot.
I had the Samsung Fascinate and it was loads better than this.

But Aviary is helping me a little.

The Galaxy Nexus' camera sucked on 4.0.2. It's definitely a lot better on 4.0.4 but when you zoom in on full res shots, it's noticeably fuzzy. I used to hate the camera. Now I think it's just okay. It's not very good in low light though. I still think my iPhone 4 takes slightly better pictures but I got that phone 2 days short of exactly 2 years ago.

It could be better, but it is acceptable. I get decent shots with it as well.

I believe user error is the cause of most poor shots.

allows you to hold the screen to focus, then let go to capture. It can reduce "image shake", or blurred shots which can come from the shock of your finger tapping the shutter soft button on the stock camera. Vignette also has options to use your volume up/down keys as focus/shot.

I virtually never use the native camera app, and use in place of it anytime I want to "go stock". It has many more options than stock, and while it may be placebo... the image quality seems slightly improved over stock as well.

Shot this with Vignette, and a macro adapter from ...

some lessons to a few of you people:

zooming with your camera phone are only digital zoom, not optical zoom. You are only degrading your shot quality.
Digital zoom produces grainy images and is done completely digitally. It sucks though even on regualar cameras.
Optical zoom is when you actually see the lens of the camera move in and out. (not in cell phones that I know of) This does not degrade photo quality for the most part.

5 megapixels or 50 mexapixels does not equal quality photos. Especially when it comes down to viewing them on your 4inch screen, you wont see a difference in quality between a 5mp picture on your phone compared to a 50mp picture on your phone(unless you zoom in). The major difference between megapixels is how big you can blow them up when it comes to printing or zooming in on them.

An unfocused uncrisp shot is still blurry with a 5 or 50mp shot. Megapixels sell in marketing, not quality of the lens/camera processer. This is why we still have sh**ty cameras on our phones. also, your picture might look great on your 4 inch phone, but when you view it in facebook or picasa on your computer, its out of focus.

how many megapixels do you really need?
computer viewing - about 3 megapixels (Depends on resolution)
    printing a 4x6 print - 2 megapixels
    printing a 8x10 print - 5 megapixels
    printing a 11x14 print - 7 megapixels

who has printed a picture taken with your cell? Nobody, why? cause the pictures suck most of the time. We really dont need more than 5-8 mp cameras nowadays.

Lastly megapixels matter when you edit your photos. Say you took a 4mp picture and cropped 25% of the picture out. you are left to print a 3mp picture. If you wanted to blow it up to an 8x10, you would have gotten away with it 4mp, but with 3 you wont.

I frequently make prints of images captured via my cell. Always have. I am aware that I am of the exception and not the standard, however. Also, never anything larger than 8x10 as of yet.

I haven't used the stock camera in a while. Been using camera + and it really isn't bad at all. Wish I could find a camera app with burst mode

agree w/the OP. I have two SLRS, but lately have been taking a lot of landscape photos w/my GNEX and posting to FB. No one believes they are w/the cell phone. I'm amazed at how sharp and clear they are, plus the exposure is pretty good. Sure, you can't get a decent image in very low light. Who would expect it with a sensor the size of a fingernail. Tiny sensor = high noise in low light.
