    Default Anyone connect to a monitor

    I want to connect to a portable monitor using the hdmi adapter but I would like the monitor itself to be portable. I know the have portable monitors that connect via usb to laptops and that's how they power up which is really cool but I'm connecting, the GNex to it.

    Anyone see anything like this?

    As you said, most portable monitors are USB-powered. You won't be able to use them with a phone, they simply don't provide that much power. Your other options are monitors with either battery power or a separate wall outlet power adapter. Since most of these portable monitors are targeted towards computer use where USB power is the most effective and consolidated solution, you're going to be hard-pressed to find a really good battery- or AC-powered one.

    I certainly hope you can, because if it's a hassle-free solution (no AC adapter) I'd like to have one myself.
    Represent yourself well; you never know what might happen. And try out the new Android Central app!

    Softbricking be damned.

    you could just buy a tablet and do a wifi hotspot on your phone to give it internet.

    Here's the problem with doing this on the Nexus...

    I have the adapter that allows me to connect to my TV via HDMI. The adapter also has a micro USB adapter for power input. You can't run HDMI signals to the TV/monitor without power into this adapter. That's problem 1. Problem 2 is that even with the power flowing into the adapter the Galaxy Nexus battery drains. Eventually the battery will drain down to zero and your video stops.

    It's not a practical way to do video.
    Droid (2009 original stock) --> Incredible --> Thunderbolt (Rooted/ROMed) --> Galaxy Nexus (Rooted/ROMed) --> Note 2 (stock)

    They also sell ones that charge your phone while watching videos but they cost abit more. It is the type I own but it makes the setup non-portable since you have to have a power source and carting around a phone, monitor, power source, charger cable, and adapter cable just is not worth it. Since all you have to do is buy a tablet and then all you need is your phone something you already carry.
