No JB for me until source arrives
So after trying all the jelly bean roms out now. An countless hours spent flashing all types of mods to better suit my needs I have decided that as of now stock JB just isnt for me. I love the improvements on the performance as well as how the notifications look/work. But i have alot of glaring issues. For one i need my toggles! And yes ive tried power toggles but it just doesnt cut it for me. I hate the fact that the speaker volume is painfully low. there are also other small bugs ive encountered such as my phone not being able to vibrate and play the tone at the same time when recieving a message. I understand that this is basically the preliminary stage of JB so i guess for now ill be forced to retreat back to my liquid rom until the source drops. But ummm whats everyone else's take on JB so far

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
I been kinda out of the forums for awhile, but been aware of jb since it was announced.
I also been hearing about some bootloop issues for even experienced users. This may have been cleared up I dunno.
For that reason I have not flashed jb. I really need a working phone and just can't afford to trouble shoot and possibly erase my sd card with locking and unlocking the bootloader as some have had to go back to total stock to get back working.
Another big reason is I am an extreme modder and there are only a small trickle of themes and mods for jb. Not enough for me atm. I mean ics is so mature and them dev gurus have got ics really polished. Jelly is just a baby...she needs to get massaged yet.
So, like the op, I can totally wait for jb source and let them aokp, liquid devs get their hands dirty and give us some solid 3rd party rom goodness.
For all you present jelly users, you must miss aokp's rom control section just a little bit right?

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
Not really. The speed and smoothness of Jelly Bean, as well as the new features, make it worth not having a really customized ROM.

I'm spoiled by the butter. The UI is just so smooth. Many third party apps have buttered up too.
I've flashed ports/kernels up to five times a day since JB trying to keep up with the updates.
I will be a bit relieved when source drops, for a little relief, full features, and all of those lovely options.
In the meantime, I'm perfectly content on stock JB. It's just too smooth to go back to ICS.

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
I can't speak for him, obviously
, but I've definitely noticed quite an improvement in swiping animations and transitions. It's definitely no placebo. I can honestly say everything in the UI feels as smooth as an iPhone in that it just feels more refined. Even some animations in apps (like PowerAMP) feel smoother. Overall touch reaction in the UI feels improved as well.
As far as some of the customizations like the power control widgets in the notification tray and some other tweaks, I can be patient enough till AOSP drops and wait till the likes of CM10 is ready for nightlies. There are some decent third party apps that bring back the quick control functionality which is essentially the only thing I'm missing. Well that and some of the gamma color tweaks from CM which enhance the display...the display with the JB ports aren't up to par but it's bearable for now.Last edited by Mooem; 07-06-2012 at 07:09 AM.

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
To OP: Nothing wrong with wanting to wait until some source-based ROMs arrive. The available ROMs now are not for everyone.. mostly crackflashers who know what they're doing and want to play with the new stuff.
@davey.. The smoothness of the UI in JB is definitely not just a placebo effect
You can feel the work done in speeding it up (call it project butter if you want.. I'm already tired of that name, lol), once you do dive in you will be very impressed. - 07-06-2012, 07:46 AM #8

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
There is a very significant difference in smoothness between ICS and JB. I noticed it immediately. There's not even any lag with any of the live wallpapers anymore -- not out of all the ones I've tried, including those like Bubbles that are definitely laggy on ICS.

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
this. i flashed the first version that showed up and everything worked flawlessly. tried going back to cm9, which i had just flashed 2 days before jb came out, and i just couldn't do it. jb runs so smooth and i love Google Now. it'll be nice to see some good jb ROMs come out later on but for right now i'm more than happy with "stock" jb.

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
Thanks JWave for the input... I got the Wugfresh 1.4 Toolkit all ready to go until I thought I check in with the forums for the last time...
After hearing Micky saying how easy everything is last night, I was dead set on rooting and flashing for the first time...
Many of you flash-a-holics got to know is that, some of us actually depend on our phones, and can't really have it out of commission for any period of time, if I miss a phone call it can mean loosing thousands of dollars...
I also have a 3-year old, so I can't be trying to root this thing at home with him running around and trying to unplug the device and wanting to play angry birds on the thing...
So the only place I can safely concentrate rooting this thing is at my office with the doors closed, on a slow Friday like today...!
But, seeing as how I get so stressed out when something so small as a picture not syncing to Picassa... I better not attempt JB today...!
Seeing also that I absolutely hate to set everything up again; it's not just doing a Nanroid backup or getting all the apps back, it's making sure every app is signed in; all the widitsoids are back where they are, and all EVERYTHING is where it should be...
I'm actually taking a ton of actual screen-shots, so that I can get an actual image of what my device should look like...
All that work, I figure should take a entire weekend to get back to...
Any advice for someone like me? - 07-06-2012, 11:02 AM #15
Re: No JB for me until source arrives
Lol.. totally understand you.. but, believe it or not, most of us crackflashers depend on our phones to work as phones, too

We just do our homework, understand what we're doing, have a backup plan and understand how we will fix things if anything should happen to go wrong. The nexus is pretty much unbrickable thanks to the factory images provided by Google. I know that no matter what I do to my phone, I can have it back up and running in brand new condition in about 3-4 minutes, no matter what. Obviously if you are new to these things it can take longer.. but my point is that you shouldn't feel frightened about it, just do your homework and ask questions if you're unsure about anything. There are a couple very knowledgeable and helpful people like myself in the Rooting section who are always there to help you if you need.
Backing things up and getting yourself set up again after a full wipe and ROM flash is something that you get better at over time. Usually takes me around 30 minutes because I like to take my time, but I can do it in far less time if I'm being lazy, lol.
Biggest thing I'd like the stress right now though, is that these Jellybean ROMs are ported from a different device with different hardware, and they are a pre-release version of the system.... they are unpredictable at best. If anyone is new to this stuff and nervous then there is no shame in waiting until the source code is out so some stable builds can be made, however if you feel like having some fun and aren't scared, just do the reading, check the stickies and guides in the Rooting section, read them a couple times, especially the guides on Factory Images and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Gnex by dmmarck. After a few read-throughs you'll understand things better and can ask if you have any questions

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
I went to a JB ROM, then another, then another, and then finally ended up back on stock, locked 4.0.4. For me it isn't worth the headaches and the signal struggles and everything. I did notice some benefits, but I will wait until they are official and enjoy them then!

I'm staying on ics for now. I tried a jb rom and it was great. still, I've got all my nice mods that I can't live without in my ics rom. I'll wait for the source to be released and aokp/jb rom.

Re: No JB for me until source arrives
I am staying on CM9 until CM10 releases, I don't mind a PURE Google JB, but I want it from the final code, for Toro. So for now, very happy with CM9 (and Franco).
and it's something to look forward too! Hopefully next week!
There is no place like 127.0.0.1
