I agree.... Unless you legitimately have a reason you cant unlock and root (like for work or something ) there is no reason NOT to already be on JB..... Just sayin.

Re: Vzw better not f up this time
I'm as fresh to the rooting sceen as they get and I have had JB running for over a week, particularly Vicious v5 off of ROM Manager. If you are comfortable rooting your phone and flashing a ROM, I'd recommend that route. I'm happy as can be with my decision to root, and you might like it too
There are plenty of educated people on this site (of course every forum has exceptions to the rule), but the help is out there if you need it. I needed it and got it when I needed a hand rooting.

Re: Vzw better not f up this time
Or what....
You'll post on a different forum about how they better not screw up again?
I think you have 3 real options...
1. Suck it up and keep giving someone money that you're unhappy with.
2. Root/flash. Take matters into our own hands.
3. Switch carriers. Don't give them any more of your money. Calling every day and complaining about how much you don't like them will only make them mad. Take away the one thing they want most - your money. - 07-13-2012, 09:08 AM #13
If calling and complaining worked Verizon wouldn't be doing some of the stupid things they have been doing lately. As for Rooting the GNEX it's pretty easy. I have owned 4 Android devices on Verizon and I have never waited on an OTA for any of them. The JB builds are there are stable and work like they came stock with your phone. Go to the root section and try to unlock and root. You won't regret it. Ask that dmmarck kid for help. He's real good. Helped me get 4.0.4 running when everyone was still waiting for OTA's

Re: Vzw better not f up this time
What would be the point of calling them? To complain about getting something they never promised you? I've recently gone through this with the Rezound. Verizon says HTC is to blame for the delay, HTC says Verizon is and in the end, the customer still doesn't have what they want. You can call until you're blue in the face but you still get the run around and probably ruin some poor CSR's day. JB hit source already, so all of the ROMs coming out are now built from the official JB source. So, why not take the leap?

Re: Vzw better not f up this time
I am just waiting for an official build to leak for the VZW nexus and i am flashing it. I have good enterprise for work emails and it can detect an unlocked bootloader or root. but if it is a leaked official build you can unlock, flash, oem relock and enjoy the new OS

but until then i am jealous and waiting

Re: Vzw better not f up this time
Anyone who's in business will tell you that there's a PITA vs Money decision to be made. When you become more of a PITA than you're money's worth, they want you to leave and take your PITA to their competitor. This is, IMO, where VZ is at with hackers, flashers, modders and heavy data users. They don't want your money.
I'm in business and I've broken off relations with more than one client because the money wasn't worth the PITA they created for me. Most companies won't tell you outright, they'll just find ways to make you want to leave. These "stupid" moves that VZ has been making lately are their way of saying "Please, take your money and your PITA and go to our competitor".Thanked by: - 07-13-2012, 03:26 PM #21
Re: Vzw better not f up this time
That's exactly what I think is happening. They're slowly taking away options and/or making it more difficult for customers who want unlimited data or unlockable bootloaders on their phones. What's next? Two separate versions of the next Nexus, one with an unlockable bootloader and one without?
Sooner or later, they will find some loophole that will allow them to take away unlimited data from those of us with grandfathered plans. I am sure of it.
I have a year and a half on my contract, Once my contract is over, I'm gonna see how things stand with Verizon. Right now, though, it's looking like Sprint will not be a bad option when my contract is over.Proudly Apple-free since 1998. - 07-13-2012, 03:34 PM

Very good point you have made, I am in my opinion a long term user young enough to use a cell phone for the next 50 years and have been with Verizon for 10 now. I pay a family plan for 4 smartphones the money is there for them
I'm sure if I took my 4 smartphone plan elsewhere would they loose sleep no, I just think buying a $300 phone that I have had problems with since day one is bad business. Iv been back and forth I don't think I should have to settle for a phone I never wanted in the first place" the razr " not to mention the phone is a 3rd generation razr to have come out. And the technology will not go past ICS. the nexus will be reviving or able to work on future software thats not even available yet and run smoothly. - 07-13-2012, 04:11 PM #23
Re: Vzw better not f up this time
Have you been under a rock?! Haha just busting your chaps but it's relatively old news now that Verizon is completely done with unlimited data. I've been unlimited forever and am grandfathered as you are, but the deal was after June 28th (I believe) if you upgrade or otherwise change your plan...your furked. Some speculate you can buy unsubsidized and swap sims, but once your two year contract expires and you move month to month I'm thinking they'll moved you to a new tiered plan. Sucks but that's where it's going. Too many people using data 24/7 to keep unlimited plans. I'm sure all will follow suit.

Re: Vzw better not f up this time
It has been reported by several places (CNet, for one) that customers can keep unlimited data so long as they buy a phone without a subsidy. What I'm saying is that eventually, I'm sure that Verizon will find a a way to take the unlimited data away from even those of us with grandfathered plans and who will want to buy unsubsidized phones to keep those plans.
We can keep our unlimited data plans right now so long as we buy our phones without a subsidy -- but for how long will that be the case?
I think we're basically both on the same page.Proudly Apple-free since 1998. - 07-13-2012, 05:59 PM

Yeah I agree that is a way to keep unlimited data, but the bad part is VZW is the only carrier that runs cdma or wcdma/LTE so buying a phone at full price doesn't mean anything when you can't switch carriers. You still have to spend the money on data and you can't just leave and take that phone to another carrier there radio signals are only for VZW unlike GSM or HSPA
