Did The Latest Facebook App Update Bring Back Contact Syncing?

Because I've definitely got it somehow, Verizon GNex on 4.0.4 completely stock with just the Facebook app installed (no haxsync, etc.). My Facebook contacts are showing up in the People app just like my other contacts. Pictures too.

I may be late to the party here, but I haven't seen people mention it. Go to Settings--Accounts if you have the Facebook app installed. It was listed as an account, I did not need to add it. I selected it and turned on "sync contacts." Nothing more to it.

I did end a bunch of open sessions for my account on the Facebook site today. Afterwards, when I opened the app on my phone, it prompted me to sign back in. That was hours ago and the only thing I've done differently with Facebook lately. I just noticed the option to sync contacts was back a few minutes ago.

Can anyone else do this? Is this a 4.0.4 thing and I missed it coming from 4.0.2?

The option to sync contacts and add a Facebook account with other accounts has been there for a while, but the actual contact sync doesn't work. You can select the Facebook account and select "Sync contacts," but it won't actually sync them. I don't know how you managed to sync your Facebook contacts without any 3rd party app though.

It's syncing pictures with my Google Contacts, which all I need. Didn't realize that was available again.

I've been wondering this as well. I noticed a few weeks back that it looked like it was suddenly syncing successfully. I'm running haxsync, but I hate it and would love to uninstall if I don't need it anymore.

I'm getting nothing on my end. I remember when it was still active on my Droid X and how useful and nifty it was. Google, let Facebook do contact sync again. Please?

This maybe a dumb way to do it but I use the main Facebook app and Friendcaster. I only use friendcaster to sync my contacts. When you first sign into friendcaster I turned notifications off and post on my behalf to "allow none". Then go into setting, contact sync settings. See attach image for my selection. You have to then hit Sync Now! warning you may need to hit sync now a couple of times. I had to go back in the app a few times and it will finally work. I only had to do this in the initial setup only. Once it syncs it seems to run fine.

Agreed, the OP was definitely mistaken. Stock contacts, facebook and either 4.0.x or 4.1.x won't sync facebook contacts without a 3rd party app/
