The WiFi Xoom is in AOSP to build a Jelly Bean ROM with no CDMA or LTE radio binaries so I should hope it gets a quick release.
I too have a VZW Xoom and a VZW Gnex and have gotten used to the jerking around by VZW since the 3G Xoom was dropped from its previous "GED" title with no explanation. I partially blame this on Google. You would think Google learned something from this experience, but it happened again with the Gnex. And people say Google won't release another Nexus on Verizon because of how the Gnex was handled?
There are soooo many threads on this device getting updates or that device getting updates with little to no truth in peoples understanding of the update process. Stop listening to anyone and everyone and start using your own observations and common sense. This should lead you to an understanding that carriers and corporations really don't make sense and you can't rely on them to make decisions that are to your advantage. So don't let their actions effect you because you already know they will upset you.
And Team EOS ROM on both Gnex and Xoom. Goomanager notifications when ROM update is available with an automated update feature very similar to an OTA update, as long as you use an open script recovery (which has gone wonky since JB)
