So my certified new nexus had a broken led light. How often does this happen? And isn't certified new just used only new is new. Am I taking crazy pills!!

Certified Like New means someone sent it back due to an unidentified issue and now you got it. Plain and simple.

So the certified new phone that was broken was replaced with a certified new phone that was broken. So i am waiting on a certified new phone that is broken.

If I bought a tv from best buy and it was broken would I accept a tv that was certified new. NO. Thus I introduce the cell phone paradox theory. Where things related to phones are totally different than any other consumer product.

Sadly, you're right. That's the game the carriers play. You could actually receive a phone that someone just didn't like and returned before their trial period was up. You won't know until you get it and try it.
