I appologize in advance, I neither have an MHL adapter, nor do I have the NFL App. Are you able to see anything on your tv via HDMI out? I know with previous devices, certain content has been blocked on HDMI output and hacks have allowed them to work in the past. Unfortunately, I am not current on that information for the GNex.

I spent several hours reading countless posts, threads, and articles for the same thing last weekend. Happened upon this, and since the app isn't used the MHL might work (i do not the adapter yet). It does work to view games, as I used this to watch the Redskins Bears game last weekend on my Nexus 7. The one big thing I did take away from reading as much as I did was the fear of trying to hack the app attracting the NFL's mighty legal team.

There is a solution for this problem. It was originally posted on Droid Forums by user jbattershell.
It is a workaround for ICS devices, and I've even gotten it to work through Terminal Emulator on my Droid 4 but with my wife's Razr it only works through ADB.
