Default Remind me why I went with a NEXUS

So the advantage I saw was no longer having to wait for OS updates. You have to be F&^king kidding that we are now waiting 3+ months for the update and Sprint already has it as well. Do not start with the root comments. You should not have to root a Nexus device to have the latest OS.

So here is what I am thinking. Either leaving Verizon and going with a Nexus from the Play store, or if I am going to stay on VZW, switching to the Razr Maxx HD.

What are your thoughts, also the price point that Google has chosen for the GSM model on the play store is 300 dollars less than VZW's CDMA Nexus w/o a contract pricing. That way you can break a contract, buy a phone and choose a new carrier and still be paying less than buying a phone on VZW's network.

I feel your pain. I think maybe we can ride out a bit for an update. I love the latest and greatest but now that Google owns Moto, things will change but not as quickly as we want. If you have the bling, buy Nexus version from Google otherwise If you're a froogle individual the wait might be worth it.

You still get the latest and greatest OS before 99% of other phones. Others are just now getting ICS. Most won't even see that. Complaining about not having Jelly Bean after only having ICS for only what 9....10 months? Go ahead and switch carriers......chances are you'll be waiting on the next update while someone else already received it. Even though you don't want to hear it root your toaster and get the latest OS. Tons of stock custom Roms that will not be any different than what Verizon puts out.

Okay I hear but wait....I lived this pain when I had the Bionic or Moto X. The reason I went with The Nexus is because it is pure Google and I would have the latest and greatest. Verizon has really screwed this up.

Verizon screwed the pooch. We knew they would before the phone even came out. Look at the back of your phone, does it say Google? Nope. Have Google Wallet? Have bloatware? The beauty of a Nexus, be it Verizon or GSM, is that it will be developed for earlier than and longer than any phone out. Try to root the X you have.... Oh, that's right Verizon really stuck it to us there.
Love the Nexus. It has ICS, which is fantastic and it will get JB. Just remember that when you get tired of waiting there is an easy option. That can't be said for all phones.

Update frustrations is sadly an android downfall no matter what device you may have. Owning a nexus makes it a little less frustrating if you decide to root or not to root

Is there another phone on the Verizon network already running JB? I don't think there is, unless the S3 just got theirs. I am sure, in Verizon's eyes, they will try to get the update on the Nexus before the S3. If not, I don't think they will lose any sleep over it. If they can find one bug that might save them thousands of phone calls to customer service in the future, I am sure they would rather delay the update a little longer. Look at the nightmare they had when the Nexus was first released. I don't think they want a repeat of that.

"you should not have to"... is just idealism.

rooting and romming is painless. i've had jb for months. i've seen the one-x and the g3 come and i am without the slightest bit of envy.

you went with the gnex because it's a fantastic device.

I say wait for the Nexus 4 then ditch VZW altogether & bring the Nexus 4 to any other carrier you want.

You are asking the wrong question. Question is why did you buy a Nexus on Verizon.

So the iPhone on ATT and Verizon is the same phone? They have the same issues of CDMA vs gsm and somehow update both versions on the same day.

Verizon added new radios to this update, this is most likely why it is taking a bunch of weeks longer than it was going to.

Verizon ALWAYS takes weeks to test Android updates.

As for iPhone, in order to get it they had to agree to allow updates on Apples schedule. It is also a different phone and thus comparing it to Android updates is not wise.

So, you are upset that you don't have JB and thus might move to a phone that won't get JB for a while? Seriously? Does that make any sense?

I have not rooted my phone yet but if you really care that much about having the best of everything, root. The idea of "I shouldn't have to root......." is silly. If you want everything the phone has to offer, you take 10 minutes to root, period. Otherwise, like me, you don't have reason to complain.

Just my opinion and I know you didn't want to hear the root part, but that doesn't make it less relevant.

No other device has JB. Only Nexii have JB. If something like an S3 or One X gets JB before our device--which they won't--then you should be really freaking out.

Sprint got 4.0.4 before we did as well. Why? Who knows. Here's what I know:

    • For where I am, the Sprint network is a black hole of connectivity. Don't feel too bad .
    • We have an AOSP device--they do not, for whatever reason.
    • Our OTA leaked and if I was a betting man I'd say it's coming sooner than later.
    • We still have an unlockable bootloader, stock Android, and a reference device for the biggest carrier in the nation. Could be worse.

For me, it's a bit funny that so many people swore left and right that the updates would come quickly and directly from Google with no interference from Verizon.

I was one of the few that said that wouldn't be the case and everyone said I didn't know what I was talking about.
    Where are they now?

I believe the 4S is the same on both (both have both a CDMA and a GSM radio. Also, having 2 devices to update is much simpler than having hundreds, and Apple has enough power over the carriers to circumvent the Verizon testing, which is what's taking this update so long.

Also, if you go with the Razr Maxx, you may wait until sometime next year for the update. How is that better?

Verizon has slow updates period. Like u said, if u don't like it get the unlocked version. Complaining will do nothing Verizon could care less. The guy above me makes a great point. If the update is what bugs you sooooooooo much why the hell would you get a RAZR Max. That almost makes it seem like us just complaining to complain because obviously the Max won't see jb for a looooong time.

You have an AOSP supported device. You will get the latest, pure Android OS since you bought the phone and carrying forward for at least another year. You might have to wait a bit (it has still not been 2 months yet that its been in testing, not 3 as was said earlier) longer than other Nexii as the awesome carrier's network you get to run it on has very strict policies and practices when it comes to approving OTA updates, but you will continue to receive the latest pure Android OS way before any other phone on Verizon. Such is life.

Its painless to those of you who have been through the process. For the rest of us, its a challenge that comes with a possiblity (albeit small one) of bricking the phone.

I run a business from my phone and I dont have the time or patience to deal with my mistake. I also knocking on 40 so Im not sure if I have the energy to deal with it.

    I just want JB.

I am researching Tmobile right now. I am very willing ot break my cotract if I can determine that tmobile covers my area well (and indoors). Im in NYC and Verizon speeds are amazing our here.

Having grown up in New York City, it seems to me that all 4 carriers have pretty good service there with the possible exception of AT&T. You'll probably be fine with T-Mobile, but careful venturing too far out of NYC (for example, I know it hardly works at all in Princeton, New Jersey, which is just 60 or so miles away).

If I am going to have to wait for updates....was my point. Now that Google owns Motorola Mobility, I would still have to wait but at least I would have the expectation.
Really, if you're on a CDMA network, particularly Verizon, your expectation should be to wait. Or if you have a carrier provided phone on any American network (the GSM Nexus is unlocked, so it's not subject to carrier standards). The G Nex will probably get JB long before any other Verizon phone does, though.
