I found a disadvantage of owing 4G phone

Well, I've found a problem. I was at the Rose Bowl Saturday tailgating before the UCLA game vs. Nebraska. As usual my setup is like this: Turn on hotspot on the Nexus. Use my Galaxy Tab to connect to the hotspot. Connect to my home cable box via my Vulkano (Similer to, but cheaper than, a Slingbox). Watch other football games on TV. An advantage of living on the West Coast is that football games start at 9am on TV.

This year there's LTE at the Rose Bowl for the first time. Wowee! I was getting a fabulous, uninterrupted picture for the first 4 hours of tailgating. (We get there 6 hours before kickoff.) And, a quick check at data usage, showed I had consumed 1.85 gigabytes of data. Wow.

Then it happened. I lost connection to 4G. I could see 4 bars but no connection. In fact, I couldn't get connection on 4G the rest of the night while at the Rose Bowl. After a while I forced my phone to use CDMA only in the settings and was able to connect.

My conclusion: About an 2 hours before game time too many Android folks with 4G showed up and it clogged the 4G bandwidth. Thank God there were only iPhone users left on 3G, and their numbers are now small compared to Android, or I wouldn't have had any bandwidth at all. So, the problem with 4G LTE is that too many people have it and when they all gather together they overwhelm the cells.

I don't believe I was being throttled by Verizon. Once the game was over and most of the crowd left the Rose Bowl (we stayed for the fireworks) the 4G connectivity worked again.

Man, I dread two weeks from now when Apple floods the market with 4G iPhones.

If your theory is correct, I'm with you. One can only hope Verizon is working OT on their LTE network for that day. I'm sure Apple is providing pressure as well, as neither Apple or Verizon wants an angry LTE iphone mob flooding their stores with connectivity issues.

That's why they set up extra towers and have mobile LTE trucks for the super bowl. Every stadium should have extra LTE towers around them.

The same thing happens at the games here in Lincoln. Connections are great until people start showing up. Even with the extra towers brought in, 86,000 people take up a lot of tower space.
I think the numbers game makes it almost impossible to keep up. Have to have a tower for each stadium section.

While this may be true for the most part its not an issue in day to day life. As for tons of LTE iPhones coming I for one will be surprised of the next iPhone will be LTE...

LTE sucks up to much battery life and that's the biggest complaint for any one who has an LTE phone.

I think the next iPhone has to have LTE to stay competitive

Yup this should be fixed. If you have any remaining errors, clear the cache in your browser!

I was in Memorial stadium for the opening game and I had no such issue with my RAZR Maxx. My son has my old G Nexus, and didn't seem to have any issues.

I don't think Verizon throttles 4G, on 3G. LTE is supposed to be able to handle a lot more traffic than 3G towers, so they argued that there was a need with 3G. Having that many people there at once would clog/slow down speeds. That is why they bring in COWS (cell on wheels) for big games.

Verizon does not throttle 4G LTE based on (over)use.

The throttle 3G based on use. They don't throttle 4G LTE if you use too much. Capacity on that tower/backhaul will play a factor though.

I think it might have just been your phone not the network. 4g can handle a lot more traffic than 3g so if 3g was still up at the game 4g should have been
