Screen "discoloration" - hardware going bad??
I've started noticing some weird color shadings on certain screens/apps and originally wasn't sure if it was just the way the apps are colored or if it's really a screen issue. Example would be when opening the FB app, that initial "blue" background for the whole screen where it says "FACEBOOK" during startup seems to have a slightly different "shade" of blue near the top where the "menu bar" ultimately is when the app finally loads. I've also started to notice some "burn in" of words and things when switching to other apps. It does seem to fade within a few seconds, but is most noticeable when I have the brighness set to lower settings (I use a BW brighness toggle on my home screen and either have it at 100% if I'm in bright areas like work/car/outside, otherwise it's at like 9%). I did notice last night when I was reading a document in Office Suite Pro that in normal portrait mode, the "white" section of the document inbetween the top/bottom menus was the usual "dull" white color that I've really always kind of had with the phone since I originally got it back in early Dec '11. But when I rotated the phone to landscape viewing, the areas of the screen that had previously been where the top/bottom menus were (that were black) which were now on the "sides" of the doc where a MUCH brighter white than the middle part of the doc. I did adjust the brightness from my low setting to 100% and it was still noticeable, although not quite as glaringly noticeable as when it was at the lower brightness. Is this "typical" for AMOLED screens and just what happens to them after time, or is this a sign that the screen has started going bad from a hardware perspective??
Anyone else experiencing the same/similar issues?!?

The Facebook splash screen is a gradient of blue, not solid blue. Your description doesn't point out anything odd there. The "burn in" is image persistence, a "flaw" of SAMOLED technology. Just unlock your device, no matter how fast, and you'll notice the numbers from the lock screen clock "ghosted" onto the Google Search bar. The "burn in" from the navigation bar and status bar are the same thing, and there's nothing you can do about it. They'll be there on every Nexus. They're on my father's which is not even a month old. Just don't fret over it and you'll find you may hardly notice it. The dull area may be the "linen effect" that supposedly occurs at low brightness. Again, typical for SAMOLED.

Re: Screen "discoloration" - hardware going bad??
Screen burn in would come from leaving the brightness at 100% and never turning the screen off. Also the gnexus does suffer from screen discoloration. Whites being dull and grainy looking. There was another nexus thatbjad similar issues. A way to change it is to root.
There is a kernel that's called trinity kernel and it gives it a bluish tent. But after awhile everything looks crisp. Also cm10 got it right. With the color hack, my whites look amazing now. So you could root and use a trinity kernel or just use cm10.Privacy is overrated :P - 10-21-2012, 04:39 PM #6

Look for where it's made Korean and China one has heavy saturation of white which makes the black show up purplish and blues off color I found this out I liked the Korean models.
