1. It simply did not like the apk that you and I were working with.

2. Your instructions in the OP appear to be for the old apk manager. All of the steps are 1 number off.

3. It didn't do the sign only piece. I had to select complie/sign/install, then break out of the script.

They were not my instructions , i may write up a tutorial if i have time....i should have thought it being a bad apk, good catch.

i usually compile it unsigned, then i place it in the signing folder then sign it.

I wasn't blaming you for the OP, I was just informing you that they were off by a number. Sorry if it came off as blaming.
I just did one for my favorite calculator.

Hmm, that was very very odd. I re-downloaded it and got the same error while trying to unzip it. But when I tried a third program (7zip), that was finally able to extract the files OK. I've never seen anything like this before. Oh well - on to see if I can get the rest of this procedure to work.

I got this to work after playing around with it for awhile. The instructions in the first post are missing steps as mentioned in this thread.

I had to download apk multi tools from another site as the one linked never seemed to want to work for me. I got it from here: https://github.com/ApkMultiTools/APK-Multi-Tool2

I extracted with 7zip to C:\Users\(w/e your username is)\apktool\

Then, from (Downloads | APK Multi-Tool) I downloaded a zip of various frameworks which is listed on that page.

After unzipping that file, I took the file called framework-res_api16.apk, renamed it framework-res.apk, and moved it here: C:\Users\(w/e your username is)\apktool\other

Then, I ran Setup.bat, option #2 to install framework.

Then I selected Option #1.

This created this folder: C:\Users\(w/e your username is)\apktool\framework

Inside the framework folder was the 1.apk that the Original Post steps 3 and 4 discuss. I replaced the 1.apk in the framework folder, and from this point on I followed the original post.

I am not sure all the reasons why this worked, or why these files are needed, as I am still learning, but I managed to get one of my own apps into multiwindow using this method. Just creating the framework file and putting the new 1.apk into that folder may work as well, but I didn't try it.

Hopefully this helps those that were also confused by the apkmanager apktools and 1.apk information in the original post and not finding these folders or these files after extracting.

Installing the framework is only needed if your creating or modifying a ROM.

The 1.apk file and it's folder gets created automatically after decompiling the first apk.

Which "folder" for the 1.apk are you talking about then? Mine was never created, and I could never find a 1.apk anywhere on my computer. The only way I ever got the framework folder, and hence the 1.apk, was installing a random framework first, then replacing the 1.apk file. While doing more research this morning, from XDA, it looks like you do need the framework folder, and need to replace 1.apk in that folder as I did last night:

For errors during re-compiling, put this 1.apk into your C:\Users\{username}\apktool\framework\ folder and replace the old 1.apk inside it.

1.apk - http://www.cvsquad.com/files/multiview/1.apk

It's the framework for the Note 2 that the tool needs. I just pulled it from my own phone.
[Tutorial] Add additional apps to Multi Window without needing root [Verizon] - xda-developers

Was the initial install of the framework folder extra unneeded step as simpling decompiling the first apk creates the framework folder and the initial 1.apk? If so, mine never did that automatically. Even though the framework is only needed for theming, it looks like framework is important for compiling and perhaps resigning apks?

Hopefully the original post can at least be updated to include more detailed information as to exactly which sub-folder location the 1.apk should be located, as it wasn't clear in this thread previously and it took trial an error for me to get this method to work.

I have a post in this thread where I proved the framework folder gets created by decompiling the first app.
I never installed framework from the setup script.

Apologies, as I must have missed that particular post. I know you were having script errors, and had to do some stuff from command line then eventually got it to work. My apparent round about install last night made compiling and recompiling error free. Did you ever figure out why you were having the issues you were having?

Many of the posts in this thread simply mention putting 1.apk in /apktool so it took these extra, and apparently uneccasry (good to learn though) steps to arrive at the same point... Finally having extra functionality in multiwindow.

By the way, while one of my paid apps worked fine, Slices, which I had upgraded to Pro (through in app purchase) loses Pro status and starts showing ads again after doing this method. Anyone run into this with other apps? Due to breaking link to play store I assume?

My paid apps worked fine too, we weren't posting paid apps because they were paid apps.

The errors I had were due to some apps not recompiling, apps like dolphin and handcent.
I modified more than 30 apps for multiview. You missed the thread because it was removed.
