Note 2 will find lap top but lap top doesn't see phone

I have a Gateway P-FX6860 laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate using a CISCO(Linksys) Wireless N USB adapter. I updated the adapter with the current drivers/software. There is an option to connect using WiFi Direct but when I scan for devices nothing is found.

However when I turn on WiFi direct with the Note and scan, it sees the laptop, but when I try to connect, it gives a Failed to Connect error.

Shut down the cisco utility and try using the wireless built into windows to see if that works.

No Luck. This time phone couldn't locate the laptop with the internal connection.

It's hard to say without seeing it, I work on computers for a living. The phone sees the laptop, but the laptop won't see the phone?

I would try disabling any firewalls, and antiviruses temporarily until you can see if it will connect that way. I've seen it when firewalls or antiviruses end up blocking seeing other computers or in this case, the cell phone.
