Can you put an off-contract phone on your bill?

I'm selling my iPhone. I'll have money in my PayPal account but not checking account for a few days. Would I be able to walk into Verizon and snag a Note and then pay it off once my money comes in?

They didn't let me bill it to my account when I ordered it a few days ago. They said it was a "iconic" device so direct billing was not allowed. I have direct billed $1000 before so it wasn't because of amount. They did the same thing when new iphone came out also.

You can try, all they can say is no.

Kind of what I was afraid of. This poor guy will be without a phone for a week or so because of this. Luckily he's ok with it.

It depends on how many active lines you have. I use to be able to bill my account for all purposes. But when I reduced the amount of lines I had I was no longer able to

Actually talked to someone this morning. She told me I could put $400 on the account and pay the remainder on the Note 2. So looks like I'll be able to get it sooner rather than later.

Thanks to everyone for chiming in. Man this thing is gonna be a monster compared to this iPhone.
