anybody using TOMTOM offline navigation on Verizon Galaxy Note 2?

at least 1/3 of the area that I drive do not have any Verizon signal(not even enough for voice)
so Google Maps / Navigation is pretty useless if I have to change or search for new destinations.
I'm looking for a decent offline navigation for Android. TOMTOM seems okay, but they don't
offer a trial version. I don't mind spending the money to buy the app, but I'd like to try it first.

you can download Google maps for your area for offline usage
that doesn't work for getting direction/navigation to new destinations.

    About offline maps

Offline maps lets you select and download certain areas in your Google Maps for Android app,
so that you can view that area even when you arent connected to the Internet or a mobile network.
