My notifications keep showing new e-mail for e-mails I have already read. The last one keeps showing up a couple of times when unlocking. Is there a setting to clear them once read?

I have this happen sometimes. I just reboot my phone or refresh the launcher.

I have this happen sometimes. I just reboot my phone or refresh the launcher.

I have re-booted and they keep coming back. The symbol disappears after opening e-mail but re-appears later on and the phone vibrates as if I have new mail. I open notifications and it says I have the same number of new e-mails. The count grows during the day. There must be a setting that will clear these once read. Any ideas?
