I was wondering, if it's free? I I'm rooted and unlocked the bootloader. Is there an app that I need to download or can I just use the Verizon app?

Try FoxFi in playstore for wireless tether. Works well for me.

USUALLY nothing will happen but there has been instances where people have gotten a text saying they need to sign up for a tethering plan. My advice would be, stay under their radar and don't use 50gb a month or something like that, and you should be fine. There are people that do use that much and more without any backlash. But why risk it? I've been tethering without instance for over 2 years.
