Not sure if this has been posted but you can install CWM from rom manager

I rooted my phone but did not do the adb method to install cwm and while just playing around with my phone I went into RM and clicked install CWM and the GSIII was listed as a device

I didnt see this posted anywhere and sorry if I missed it and this is a dup post

I actually did the same thing. Initially it wasnt showing up in the list of devices but now it is.

do you have to have any files loaded on the SD card prior to installing via Rom manager? and how do you go about installing through rom manager? do you just have to hit the "flash clockwork recovery" tab, and then it takes care of itself? or is there more involved, like after it is installed do you just need to reboot?

just click the flash cwm tab and it will install......easy as that!

Now is there any way to get ROM Manager to use the external SD card instead of internal memory? I have a 32GB sd card in and the box to select for External storage is greyed out in settings and won't let me select it.

Looking for the answer to this question. Keeping backups on the internal storage doesn't seem like a good idea. Manually moving them back and forth just seems like a pain.

I can save backups directly to external sdcard the CWM Recovery v 6.0.1.2 flashed tho Rom Manager is still the recovery using.I am currently on a rooted/stock Rom . Thats actually the only process I use Rom Manager for

If your sdcard is formatted as FAT32 then you can use CWM to save your nandroid files there; if it's formatted as ext3 (the default) then you can't.

I'm using a 64gb sd card. So using fat32 doesn't seem like a great idea? Maybe I'll use a different card for all my rooting and roming.

Will formatting sd card as fat32 screw up anything else or prevent some other app from accessing sd card?

I think fat32 is limited to formatting up to 32gb, and doesn't handle very large files well. How do galaxy nexus users store backups and what not?

Internal storage as the GNex doesn't have an external sdcard. Also FAT32 works on the 64GB cards but you won't be able to transfer files over 4GB. Not really an issue unless you want to rip full size dvd's to your phone.

What about wiping the phone when flashing roms? Wouldn't that wipe away your backup?

I'm guessing the Gnex is set up the same way, but part of the internal storage on the GSIII is labeled "sdcard" and the factory reset option in CWM doesn't touch it so backups, pictures and anything else there will be safe. The actual factory data reset in Settings-Backup and Reset does apparently wipe it out though.

okay, well that makes things simpler. Really couldn't comprehend not being able to make a nandroid directly onto the external sd card if the internal sd was just gonna get wiped when I flashed a new rom. That makes things so much easier.

CWM shouldn't wipe anything on the "internal SD Card" (which isn't really a card, but the file system labels it that way) or on the external SD card.

Be warned though that if you wipe via stock recovery at any time, it WILL wipe the internal storage, including personal media and such.
