READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
I'm just putting this out there. In the agreement it states:
"If you change your device or receive a Service promotion, you may be required to change your Plan to one that we are currently offering at that time."
I'm wondering if this is Verizon's loophole to screw us out of our unlimited data. When you activate a new phone, you are "changing your device"... - 07-04-2012, 07:25 PM #2
Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
The key word is you may be required to change your plan, when you change your device. Think in terms of going from a flip phone to a smartphone, or a feature phone to a smartphone. In this case you would have to change your data plan to one that is suitable for a smartphone. To answer your question no, this is not the loophole that Verizon is using to screw us out of our unlimited data. Another example everyone who pre-ordered their s3 before 6/28, signed their agreement to keep their unlimited data. When we receive our s3 we are changing our device but we will keep our unlimited.

Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
I understand what you're saying and I hope you're right, but if Verizon had used "will" instead of "may" in the agreement do you think they would have gotten the number of pre orders that they did? The key to any contract is the wording. I'm not trying to start a fight on here but with people receiving their phones as early as tomorrow, I threw it out there to help people be informed.

Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
Once VZ charged our credit cards we are locked into the agreement we picked when we bought the phone.
VZ can't just say, "Nope. You gotta switch plans." when we activate the phone.
Bait and switch is illegal.
Also this...
"If you change your device or receive a Service promotion, you may be required to change your Plan to one that we are currently offering at that time."
...just sounds like they are saying if you are on a plan they no longer offer then you may have to change to a new one they currently offer when you change your phone. (aka no more grandfathering you in)
I think you are reading WAY too much into this.Last edited by mikesmith; 07-04-2012 at 08:00 PM.

Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
Uum this has been known and stated in every contract for years.....

MSweetAngel36 does bring up something important, though it doesn't apply in the sgiii case
If by chance you get referred to the Customer Loyalty dept and they make you an offer to compensate you for some reason, they will change your plan. They did that recently with me when I had issues with them concerning an overage on my Xoom. They knocked $35 off my next bill to cover the overage. But to do so, it required me agreeing to a new contract for 1 year.
Since there was no difference in cost or data amounts and it only changed my contract date by 3 months, I agreed. But it could have changed a lot

Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
I have a HTC Trophy (windows mobile) I was wanting to activate and play around with for a bit. I called Verizon to see how it would affect my insurance (would I lose coverage on my Droid Bionic) and she told me if I switched phones I would lose my unlimited data.
Now I don't really believe her, but I never did get a real answer and I don't know what would happen if I activated it. I still don't know what would happen with the insurance... - 07-04-2012, 08:24 PM #10

Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
The way some people (not just the OP of this thread) are grasping at straws, it almost seems like some people WANT Verizon to try to screw them over or something...
I have an email receipt for my preorder including my unlimited plan, I have a screenshot of said preorder with unlimited selected (nostalgia purposes), an emailed transcript of a chat with VZW that clearly states I will get to keep my unlimited data, and finally a screenshot of said chat. If VZW tries to screw me out of my plan in any way, I'm walking. US Cellular has the SGSIII and LTE service as well. - 07-04-2012, 08:28 PM #12
Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
One very important thing everyone is forgetting, they're a giant corporation and can do whatever the hell they want. Every single one of those T&C's is packed full of 100's of ways for them to get out of anything. The reason they don't is because they don't want a bunch of people crying and creating bad press. Simpler way is to slowly execute a change by the guise of making things easier and do it over a long period. In a year or two they'll probably completely wipe out unlimited by simply saying the new iOS7/android5 phone features require you to have a new plan which aren't compatible with the old plan. It's been standard operating procedure for 15 years. They just play dumb and pretend they're giving you something that just isnt possible on the last plan you were on. Hint:the new plan always costs 15-25% more then the last.

Re: READ Verizon's Customer Agreement!
Don't forget, in your aggreement is also states:
We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change. If you're a Postpay customer and a change to your Plan or this agreement has a material adverse effect on you, you can cancel the line of Service that has been affected within 60 days of receiving the notice with no Early Termination Fee if we fail to negate the change after you notify us of your objection to it.
So if they try to screw you, you can take your ball and go somewhere else.I know enough to get into trouble, but not enough to get myself out of that trouble. - 07-05-2012, 05:45 PM #21

FYI, I thought this was a little bit overboard too, HOWEVER, my cousin spent 3 hours on the phone and at the store arguing about the unlimited. They told him they wouldn't activate it if he didnt move to shared plan. He pre ordered on 6/6. Finally got them to relent.... But it took a whole lot of work
