Heads Up GS3 owners.. Sammy hasnt released ESN = No Activation
Got my white 32GB this morning ... I cant activate it.
VZW has told me that Samsung has not released the ESN's to Verizon.
Make a long story short... no activation until Sammy says so. Could be all the way until the 9th.
If this is true... this is a disaster of EPIC proportions for Verizon.

Wow, this could go from an annoyingly inconsistent release to a debacle real quick.

You would think though, that it would be just as bad for Samsung's reputation as Verizon's. I wonder what their motivations are?

maybe they want everyone who preordered to activate at once, who knows, maybe 7/9 was a hard date with samsung

I actually thought the manufacturer gave out the esm and meid before they sent to the carrier so when users got some early it would work. There has to be a good reason why Verizon knowingly not having the esn would ship the devices out early, right?

Im not sure I understand what they are claiming. The ESN numbers come with the phones. Is there somthing the manufacurer has to do to make them active??

Sad thing is Verizon and Samsung never acknowledge blunders by themselves. They just ignore it until it goes away and act like a problem never existed.

oh man, that sucks. I hope they have it resolved soon. My phone isnt shipping out until 7/11

The ESN is probably on the outside of the boxes. It is with most other phones I have gotten from them. I can't believe Verizon doesn't have a list of the ESNs. Perhaps they screwed up and missed some or something when building it into their system. But I can't believe they don't have the ESNs or at least weren't given the information.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get this figure out and how many phones are affected. - 07-05-2012, 09:48 AM #17

I know the esn are on the phone and on the boxes but a Verizon rep doesn't know where you are getting your esn from. The esns are sent from the manufacturer to the carrier. Easily imported into the system. Now Verizon cross checks your esn with those they got for validation.
It also appears someone got theirs activated so it appear this thread may have been a good warning but also could have been a combination of OP doing something wrong and Verizon incompetence. Who knows. - 07-05-2012, 10:10 AM #20

The phones are coming to us from Verizon. I don't buy for a second they don't have knowledge of the ESNs they sold / shipped. It is on all the paperwork I get from Verizon with each phone we get at work. Verizon knows (or should) what phone / ESN they shipped to what customers. In fact when in the B2B site most of the time the ESN is already loaded there and I can switch the ESN there.
Probably just a clerical error. Some series of ESNs weren't input or something by Verizon.
I have only activated 4 or 5 LTE devices and sometimes it works smoothly other times not. Here at work we have 3G if you are lucky. At home I get a strong LTE signal so I take the trouble devices home and activate them at home. I had the phone shipped to my house vs work just for this reason. I don't want to get frustrated trying to get it activated while at work.
Anyway I bet they resolve this in a day or two (took two days for one of the 1st two Mifi's I setup).Last edited by jcondon; 07-05-2012 at 10:21 AM.

As said in another thread. Think you're just having issues coming off a 3G device. Head to a store, they'll iron it out for you.

I'm heading to a store as soon as I get mine. The phone is coming in on the wife's upgrade and I'm activating on my account. Not going to try that over the phone as I don't have a home phone to call in on. Hope they have no issues.

This is an impossible scenario. As others have said, it's likely an account issue. You actually shouldn't have to talk to a human at all if you follow the steps outlined in the how to activate thread.
