Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
Ok.... So I got an email today from Verizon and then immediately from my bank informing me a charge had been declined.
I call my bank, ask them to approve the next charge from Verizon. No problem.
Call verizon. CSR says "Oh yes we were going to ship your phone, but since your card was declined the soonest we can ship it to you is the 19th". At that point I say cancel the pre-order. (FYI - when I pre-ordered the ship date was the 11th)
I figure I will just go online and order it again now that the previous order is history. Since the bank is now going to approve the charge, no problem right?
WRONG. I place the new order. Ship date is the 19th!
Wonderful. Just an FYI to anyone else here who has their card declined.... expect to be waiting a whole extra week. - 07-08-2012, 06:43 PM #2

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
I have a Visa Signature card (FYI - signature cards are for people with outstanding credit and actually allow charges over your credit limit). Credit limit is $15,000. Card has a zero balance on it.
There was absolutely zero reason for the charge to be declined. I have had this card since 2006, and have never had a charge declined on it until today. Since there are multiple people on this forum with the same experience, this tells me that Verizon has a trash e-commerce site that is written so poorly it trips fraud alerts at apparently almost every bank in the country.
This is all on Verizon - not me. - 07-08-2012, 07:06 PM #4
Not all declines are for going over the credit limit. I have a similar issue with my Chase CC. Mine was declined, but it was due to an alert to possible fraudulent charge. That happened to be my Verizon charge. I will be calling tomorrow morning to get them to push the order. I hope they do not push the later ship date. I may have to cancel and goto the store.

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
A lot of people had issues with their cards being declined and most reported it had to do with the credit card company declining because it could be fraudulent. Apparently there are a lot of fraudulent mobile device purchases. I'm glad the credit card companies are looking out for everyone but I would like them to neither reject nor accept the payment until they get in contact. Like put it on hold and transmit that message to the requester (Verizon in this case) so your order won't be cancelled. Needs to be some better communication there.

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
I've mentioned in another thread but Verizon really handles their pre orders very poorly. If the card is declined they shouldn't have immediately canceled the order. They should have at least emailed customers whose cards were declined and give them like a 24 hour notice or something along those lines to give them a chance to call Verizon and clear up any problems they had so then they don't end up with a July 19h ship date or some bull like that. Really poorly handled pre orders...

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
Well, Sprint's LTE network is going live in my city before the 19th. I can get unlimited data with them AND the S3 is available for shipping now without this type of BS.
Plus I was paying full price for this phone.... I have 6 months left on contract. I would actually come out ahead paying the pro-rated termination fee, getting the fully subsidized phone at Sprint, and paying a lower monthly rate.
This may have been the last straw for me with Verizon.
I actually left Sprint due to their network for Verizon, but loved Sprint otherwise. - 07-08-2012, 07:32 PM #13
The problem is VZW and the CC co don't know if its legit or not. They are actually looking out for you. I've had issues three times in five years were my numbers were stolen. Just last week I seen an $85 charge to best buy and had to cancel my card. Another an employee in NJ was selling numbers and had my account drained. Verizon should call or text that the transaction was declined, but they decline it to protect you. Especially if you don't normally make big purchases to a specific retailer.

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
There is no way Verizon was not aware that this type of issue would occur.
The fact that they are bumping people who may have pre-ordered before 99% of other people to the back of the line with no recourse? Unacceptable.
If not for that fact, the credit card decline is not an issue. Bumping to the back of the line when you were among the first to order? Huge issue. - 07-08-2012, 07:38 PM #16
Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
When Verizon charges your cc, it does not say "Verizon" as the merchant, but says something along the lines of "Telephony Equipment". I say it's good for the cc issuer to be cautious of the charge. This would be a good question for Verizon as wo why it does not show "Verizon".
In addition, if your cc is declined, Verizon will send an email requesting you contact them and provide updated information. It's up to you to do so.
OP, the rep told you the ship date was the 19th, but you canceled your pre-order, ordered again, and now your upset the ship date is the 19th?

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
May cancel this one and go to Sprint. Looks like I will be able to check out Sprint LTE speed tests since Sprint LTE goes live in my city on the 15th and I am bumped to the back of the line for the 19th. If Sprint's LTE lives up to the hype.... I'm immediately switching.
I was with Sprint for years prior to Verizon. Other than the horrible network, I never had anywhere near as many issues (or so many attempts to nickel and dime me) as I have had with Verizon. Share Everything was an omen of things to come.... - 07-08-2012, 07:40 PM

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
Yes, the way the rep worded it was that "the system won't try to charge you again until the 19th". It was NOT worded that I was just being bumped to the back of the line. Therefore, I should have been able to put in a new order that would be charged sooner, which I attempted to do.
Apparently that was yet another Verizon lie to cover up the fact they were simply bumping me to the back of the line despite pre-ordering well ahead of time. - 07-08-2012, 07:41 PM #19
Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
That's precisely my point. My bank has called me plenty of times in the past asking about a charge and them when I confirmed it they said "ok, we'll authorize the payment. Thanks for your time". Credit card companies can do the same thing. And Verizon doesn't have to cancel the order. They can give you a certain time (like 2 hours) to call them to see what's going on. It's really not that hard. It's just a matter of if they want to do it. For instance I ordered something from amazon a couple months ago and my account still had my old debit card number. Amazon didn't cancel my order. They told me they couldn't process the transaction and I had to update within 24 hours to avoid cancellation. It's a courtesy and some companies choose to do it. Of course I know they are looking out but you don't have to Immediately reject everything. I mean some people do actually use their credit cards to buy stuff.

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
So how soon did you respond after you were notified about the declined charge? Why not ask to speak with a supervisor if you're in the right? Sounds like you canceled the pre-order out of anger/frustration instead of trying to work it out.
Maybe you can get one on the 12th. Which one did you order? - 07-08-2012, 07:57 PM #24
You do know that cc companies can be contacted prior to charges to ensure no issues are encountered. Well, obviously many don't. I can say that in 30 years of card use I have never had a card declined unless due to my own negligence in some way or another.
But the conspiracy theory is that a mega company is haphazardly cancelling sales?? Does that sound ignorant to anyone else? After all, they don't want sales or profits do they?
As a consumer, you have responsibilities, and communicating with your 15k signature card should be one of them.

Re: Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order
I was literally reading my email the second the Verizon email hit my inbox. I was on the phone within Verizon within 15 minutes. Yes, I spoke to a supervisor. No, I did not act like a psychopath. No, I will not act like one for a phone nor should I have to.
15 minutes from the time I got the email to talking to verizon.... Yet they could do nothing for me.
Part of me wonders if all of the CC declines were orchestrated in order to provide a convenient excuse for Verizon being unable to meet their previous time commitments to customers. A little too convenient that so many "credit card" issues are suddenly hitting so many people IMO.
