Default Dev version Verizon SGS III coming soon

Verizon and Samsung doing stuff the right way here. Bravo!

I know this is more root/ROM/hacks, but it's huge news and I can't contain myself. Forgive me for posting two threads, I just wanna make sure everyone who needs to see this gets a chance to see it.

Can you tell it makes me happy? LOL

I don't know whether to be pleased or pissed they're pulling a Motorola.
Hopefully this version is helpful in circumventing the locked bootloader. Guess I'll be selling my "normal" GS3.
Kind of miffed they announced it after I had already bought mine.

Question Re: Dev version Verizon SGS III coming soon

So do I sell the one I preordered as soon as it arrives (tomorrow) to get top dollar and wait for this? I'd like to believe this is true, and I'm sure it's based on the best information that's available right now, but I can see the ****** bags at Verizon pulling some behind the scenes to make this not happen.

I have half a mind to return mine and just stick with the Nexus

If I wanted to play these kinds of games, I would buy phones from Motorola.....

This is damn good news, and everyone just want to whine. Verizon opened up their network to a top of the line unlocked phone, Covered their warranty liability. Samsung gets to sell what they want. Consumers can buy what they want. This is sooooo WIN WIN WIN.
    Why are we whining?

This won't be very exciting if you have to have a developer phone (with an unlocked bootloader) to use what developers produce. At $650 a pop with taxes, I can't see this being a very popular choice.

Still a kick in the pants. $400 for an unlocked bootloader? That should be free.

I don't see how this is good news.

My Galaxy Nexus with an easily unlocked bootloader suits me just fine for $300. (Yeah, I have a contract, but I'm not going anywhere.) No need to spend $600 for something my Galaxy Nexus can do for half the price--or what the same phone can do on other networks for 1/3 the price.

Well it's not effecting your contract so it's just an off-contract price.

Will this help those of us with lock phones. Surely there must be a way to convert a locked phone over right??? Right?...

Are you joking? This is Verizon and Samsung doing it the wrong way. We know about Verizon, but Samsung is now equally guilty in my book. They could have announced this sooner. Now you have many angry people who have activated their pre-ordered phones finding out they could have gotten an unlocked version.

I don't care who forced what, both are now equally guilty of misleading customers. When my pre-ordered SG3 arrives in a couple days, I'm probably going to return it without opening it. Disgusting on all parts.

Really after I just got my phone, once again verizon f**cking thier customers good. What they should do is just provide us with an unlock tool just like what HTC have. I wish I had $600 to buy it though. Hopefully devs can use this phone unlock our phones.

Why? Sell it for $500, cough up a hundred. Get the phone you want. They actually gave us a choice for a change.

Who got misled? I never saw a, "this bootloader is unlocked" announcement.

You should easily be able to sell your brand new GS3 for 600-650. The buyer's saving on the tax.
You'll have to eat the tax on the new one but that's ~$60.

Insane you shouldn't have to buy a different phone just to have the option to an open boot loader htc does it right there should be a tool to unlock it not a "dev" edition

This is ridiculous. Verizon should have opened them up to everyone in the first place. No one should have to pay more to have it unlocked when they will no longer even cover the warranty. Paying 3 times the cost and Verizon doesn't even have to help pay for the subsidy... yet you're paying full price to use their service.

Dude, no CM9 until they find a work around for the encrypted boot loader.

T-Mobile has this phone. Vote with your wallet.

Starting about now I think we're all going to have to pay full price to keep unlimited data. Around 600 is the going price for most high end Verizon phones. Not my preference but I think we're stuck with it.

They should offer a trade-in program or something for those of us that already have our phones. Or just offer a freaking unlock tool like HTC that voids our warranty.
