I think the blurry photo problem is software, not hardware

I'm getting much, much better photos using the stock camera app in CM10 than I was using the Touchwiz camera. Anyone experiencing the same thing?

I am on day 5 and have taken many photos, I am very impressed with every aspect of the camera. I am rooted, running stock.
At the moment I cannot think of anything that would make the experience better.

Sorry to hear that you are having some issues; possibly a problem with your camera specifically (hardware, lense, etc.)?
Do you have access to another S3? Or maybe go into a store and test cameras side by side, same environment to see if there is a difference.

Before purchasing I went nuts with the store camera to see how well it worked; it was one of the reasons I got the phone.

I believe people are noticing this because of how the focus is set up, previous to this camera, when you click to take a picture it will auto zoom and once focused it will auto snap the pic. This in turn takes great clear photos.

Now with this gs3 it constantly refocused. So if it focuses and you move the phone a lil the click to take a pic, the result is blurry.

No way to get back to previous method with stock camera.

You can hold down the picture button and it will focus and once it turns green you can release resulting in a less blurry photo...to me this is the best way with the stock camera...I'm going to try some other camera apps and maybe find something easier

It's no Dslr but still the best camera on a phone I've ever used. Most of my pics are as clear as can be.

i believe this is tough to call. So many people have different eyes and there are so many diff pictures one can take.

Taking still shots my camera is great with no blur. As soon as i try and take a picture of someone who isn't perfectly still, i get some blur.

I am very picky. I do believe that other people would see nothing wrong with the photos i deem to be blurry.

I think you are expecting too much from a phone camera then.

Please keep in mind, the lens assembly and imager in the average cell phone packages into the space the size of a pencil eraser. What are you expecting?

Get a proper camera if the motion blur is bothering you that much.

Not trying to be harsh, just being realistic.

The photo problem with the S3 appears to be a combination of design flaws in the software and lack of proper integration with newer, less-tested hardware.

I have 20 years of professional photo expertise, more than half with digital (SLRs and everything else, including many camera phones. I have taken some *stunning* photos with my old S2, even on par with some of my best SLR photos (especially macros, which the S2 excelled at). I have been unable to produce other than average or terrible photos with my S3 (so far, after a day or two).

The S2 took better pix with the stock app, but the S3 clearly has a focus-timing problem, as clearly stated by someone else in the know (here and on other blogs). Expecting a camera phone to be better than an SLR or point-and-shoot is completely irrelevant here, and somewhat demeaning to photo and computing experts (such as myself). CameraZoom FX does a much better job, and the "shutter lag/delay" trick described (for the built-in camera app) will probably be a decent hold-over until the apps and/or hard/firm-ware are corrected.

I've taken thousands of photos with my S2, some in extremely unfavorable conditions (dimly lit bars and stages)...and they came out degrees better than my new S3. I have taken several dozens of photos with my S3, and even with the flash, the auto-focus hunting was not a problem on the S2. This is clearly a problem with the S3. Out of 30 photos I took last night, I deleted 10 that were completely atrocious, and only 2 of the 30 are even marginally OK (about 10% quality, versus 60-100% on my S2 photos in identical conditions).

I will be talking to my local techs at the Sprint store to see if they can come up with anything more helpful. Samsung rushed the hardware out the door before enough extensive testing could have been done, instead expecting the user community to "crowd-source" more extensive testing (at a hidden cost to the consumer and savings to the manufacturer). I have found other bugs in my S3 that I will be bringing to the attention of Sprint and Samsung.

It's hard to diagnose a blurry photo problem without seeing examples and the EXIF (information regarding shutter speed most critical) .

Have you activated the anti-shake setting (under the gear menu)

The S3 chooses to minimize the noise in images and will use a lower ISO that requires a very slow shutter speed and you'll get blur from camera movement.

Another way to avoid motion blur is to activate the voice commands so you can say "cheese" or "shoot" to take the picture.

I am finally beginning to like this phone, but I sure wish there was a dedicated hard button, or at least a multi-use button that could be used as the shutter like the iPhone. I think that would cure a lot of blurry photos, at least for me.

phrazz...this has been my experience, exactly. The cm10 m1 ROM camera is better...as long as you like the jb experience over ics and want to root your phone.

This is exactly my thinking. I've made a post in the AT&T S3 forum comparing some S3 vs. S2 photos I took Halloween night. In EVERY photo the S3's image came out fuzzy/blurry, darker and "washed out" compared to the exact same image taken by the S2.

The lens wasn't dirty or smudged. The settings on BOTH devices were set to default, and both are running the stock camera app on stock Android. In every instance (100+ photos), the S2 just simply took a better picture.

There is either something wrong with your phone or your hand was not steady at all. Even if the people in the picture were moving, while they would have been blurry everything else in the photo would have at least been focused and clear but everything in this picture is blurry.

So, either clean your lens or you need to be more still while snapping the picture. If neither of those work then their is something wrong with your phone. If you take a picture of something still and it is blurry, that alone should bring up a red flag.
