I notice it is a big user of data.

    Is it something I need?

Biggest user, I noticed was Google+, which I've turned off, hopefully.

I'm not sure what that is, but I know if you have instant upload enabled on Google + then it uses a ridiculous amount of data

    I found this online:

    NewBay Customer - Verizon

    Verizon bloat, maybe?

Yep, that is what it appears to be, but I've never heard of it before.

Thanks for the link. I went there and found all I needed to know about this resource hog. I do not need it on my phone, and am disabling it. Thanks again!

New Bay Service is associated with backup assistant plus. I called VZW service and spoke with tech and a fairly knowledgeable guy tried to help me stop it from constantly trying to update nothing.

Noticed I used over 2GB of data in 3 days!!!!!. Saw that this new bay service used almost all of it. Was running in background. So I had to restrict background data on it. Don't know what it is for??? Or how I got it on my phone

Just another reason to NOT ever use Backup Assistant. Google already syncs your contacts for you, it's a useless app that just hogs resources.

Whenever you run an initial setup of a Verizon device (either new device or after factory reset), I suggest skipping all steps related to BA.

From any Home screen, press the Menu button, choose Settings, scroll down to the Accounts section and you'll find Backup Assistant Plus. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a simple "Turn Off" checkbox, so just uncheck all of the boxes for stuff that you don't want it to backup.
Or, do a Factory Reset and skip those questions

    Brent,
Perhaps you work better with pictures than with the text solution provided in post #12:What is "New Bay Service"?-uploadfromtaptalk1376676993114.jpgWhat is "New Bay Service"?-uploadfromtaptalk1376677054208.jpgWhat is "New Bay Service"?-uploadfromtaptalk1376677071049.jpgSent from my rooted, debloated, deodexed Sinclair ZX-80 running CM -0.001 using Tapatalk 2

No that link is dead now, which is curious. So I've got Backup Asst Plus backing up only my contacts and am still afraid of going over my data limit. Where the 57@@!! did this new bay service come from??? I know my phone worked just fine without it. Too bad that the link was smothered.

You can also open the app and change it to backup over WiFi only

Or just uncheck all of the items and it should never run.
Your contacts are backed up through Google anyway, aren't they?
