I'm coming from Apple and I have to say, in user friendliness, they are way ahead.

I live in Ohio and was in Ann Arbor MI yesterday. I needed a drugstore fast. I could not get my phone to give me a local store even though my GPS was on and said I was in Ann Arbor! It kept taking me to my vacation spot in NC!

I tried MAPS, Google Nav, Local Businesses...All routed me to NC and totally ignored my present GPS location,

I like my new phone but have to read a new small book every time I'm trying to use it.

I still don't know why it kept sending me to NC when I was very specific where I was & what I needed. The maps even showed I was in Ann Arbor.

HELP! Is there a book for dummies on this phone?

This usually happens to me. What I so is make sure I put the actual state in to content. I live in California and I wanted to get directions down the street and it told me to drive to new jersey!! You also have to either refresh Google when using precise directions.
I've had this problem before on my s3 and not on other phones. All I have done was reset the phone whole keeping gps active and I had no problems.

Not sure what you did to input the end destination. For me, what I typically do is first turn on the GPS (I use Quick settings for easy access). From there you will be prompted to turn on each GPS service individually (Standalone GPS, Google location, and VZW location). I turn on the first 2.
Then I turn on the Navigation (Blue arrow icon). Once in the program, I usually enter the address via 'speak destination'. It will confirm your end destination or give you a few choices to choose from. Once you accept the location the next thing that pops up is the 'Complete action using' dialog box. I select Navigaton. Then it will try to locate the GPS if it hasn't done so already.
Pretty much that's it.
