S3 data hog
for the last 20 months i had a droid x. never used over 2g a month even tho i was a heavy user and never used it with wi fi. i now have the S3. in my first month of using i am at 2g at 23 days. same heavy user but tried to do the wifi at my apt bldg. wi fi connects very slowly in comparison to g4 and why pay for a g4 phone if you can't use it. so have used wi fi off half the time. i went into verizon and discussed this with a sales rep and he admitted that yes this powerful phone is going to use more data. so my contract is for 2g and i will have to pay $10 extra for every gig i use. anyone else experiencing this scenario

Re: S3 data hog
Heck my app updates use more than a half gb a month with around 110 apps. I download maybe one movie a month, a few roms, the forums, twitter, very litttle Facebook, and stream two to three hours a month and I use 20 to 30 GB a month. I do tether at different times to a few tablets.
I would call vzw support and talk to them. They are very good about giving credit. There are also apps on the market that can help sort out where your usage is going. - 10-23-2012, 07:40 PM #3
Re: S3 data hog
The phone only uses data if you use data... You already stated you keep the wifi off... Does your data usage in settings and the vzw usage widget say the same? You pay for what you use as simple as that... Personally speaking, I have 6 gigs shared with two s3's and have yet to pass 2 gigs as have wifi home and work.

Re: S3 data hog
I tried to fight moving to 2gb vs my old unlimited plan. I don't really use over 500MB. I check emails once in a while, stock all day, Google navigation with satlelite off & then weather with radar constantly. I don't use WiFi & on 4g all the time! In the beginning I had a 3D clock that was constantly checking GPS location & running the battery down in less than a day. I am a light user & battery lasts 3 & 4 days all the time! Something must be using it up if it's not you!

Re: S3 data hog
Who is your Internet provider that WIFI is so slow? I get the whole "4G is fast so why shouldn't I be able to use it" argument, and I hate capped data plans as much as the next guy, but in most cases WIFI (assuming it's a strong signal and you're not stealing a weak signal from one of your neighbors) should be pretty comparable, if not faster.
My biggest complaint is that if I'm at my home or office or anywhere that I can get wifi, chances are I don't need to be using my phone to stream music/movies/etc. In other words, the times when I'm most likely to need to use my data for media, I have no choice but to use 4G. I also travel around to different offices for work, and have to rely on MHS quite a bit for a connection (and that can use a TON of data if I'm working off of it all day, sometimes as much as 1GB/day). That is why I paid full retail for this phone and elected to keep my unlimited data plan. I know the day will come, however, when VZW will force off of it for one reason or another...but until that day I'm going to hold onto it with an iron fist.
