Actually that's not true. You don't need to be rooted. You need a custom recovery. That's not the same thing.

The gsm iPhone 4 did have an issue with the way you hold the phone but they also did give away free cases to fix that issue

I realize that but we were usually a model behind and by the time we got it the free bumper give away was long done with.

I was in the same boat, although I never upgraded to the iPhone 5. I took a chance after playing with the s3 and, now having had it a couple of months, haven't even looked back (at apple). My girlfriend has the iPhone 4 still, and every time I pick it up, it feels so small and I wonder, "how did I ever use this??"

It was definitely a learning curve, but the features and customization were what sold me. The iPhone 5 really just was the 4s with a faster processor and a slightly larger screen. I still haven't grasped the full functionality of the s3 at this point, but I think you'd be making a good leap if you went android.

But, really take a look at what you're going to be using it for, what you already have invested in Apple products, etc. Good luck!
