My wife and I just got our S3 last week. She had smart stay set and noticed that her battery was down to 30% after 4 hours. She noticed that smart stay kept checking to see if watching screen so it wouldn't shut off. Over 3 hours of screen time on for 4 hours off charger.

Just wanted to give my experience

Well, a reboot should help THAT problem. But I'll agree that the Smart Stay feature is not as robust as one could hope for: most of the time, the little icon shows up in the Status bar, and then right after that the screen shuts off  I have noticed that if I happen to be looking right at the front camera sensor (rather than at the screen in general), then alot of times the screen will remain on if I keep looking at it. But it's pretty much a crap shoot.

It also depends on the lighting. The camera sensor needs light on your face to see it. Light behind you or dark rooms will not let Smart Stay work properly.
