HELP, Emoji Keyboard/Icons?

I sent my wife who has an iPhone, my 16 or so stock icons I can choose from came across all letters or black figures to her and likewise to me. I am using the stock messaging app.
I cannot figure this out for the life of me? What do I need to download to make emoji icons work? I'd like to use them too in Twitter or Facebook?

As for why it won't work from the stock app I'm not 100%. Could be a setting. Check your settings to see if it mentions anything about emoticons.


Try a third party app. Handcent or Go SMS are popular.

Handcent works. There is nothing in settings I can find for the stock messaging app. In my research, seems to be an issue.

I think you have to use a 3rd party SMS app to use the Emoji emoticons. My wife has like 4 pages of them. Stuff like weapons of mass destruction, whips and chains.
