I learned something new about Factory Resets

Long story short ... the latest update by HTC broke the WiFi on my Rezound. I could connect to WiFi, but everything downloaded/uploaded at a crawl.

I performed two factory resets this way: Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Factory Data Reset. It fixed nothing!

HTC support advised me do a factory reset via the HBOOT screen (turn phone on while holding the volume rocker down as if you were lowering the volume) -- the phone works on WiFi, now.

I had no idea that the two ways to reset would produce different results.

Posting this in case it helps someone else down the road.

I noticed this when I experienced the boot loop.

I tried to do the Factory Reset through the HBOOT menu. But I didn't think it worked because it looked to me that nothing changed. Had to finally pull the SIM and do a factory reset from the settings menu.

By 'settings menu', are you referring to Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Factory Data Reset? Or, are you talking about the menu on the HBOOT screen?

Referring to doing the reset from Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Factory Data Reset.

HBoot is a "truer" reset, the factory reset in settings is a dried up bottle of white out.

BUT, it worked for him when the other procedure failed. Anyway, now I know that each procedure can have different results. Good to know.

Yea I am not sure.

I just know when my phone went into boot loop I could get to the HBOOT screen and 3 times I tried to select Factory Reset. And 3 times it didn't appear to have done anything. My phone will still load up with the downloaded wallpaper I had and then restart.

When I pulled the sim card and was able to get the phone up without automatically restarting I was able to do the Factory Data Reset from the Settings menu and then it did the whole reset deal for me.

Sim card was the key factor.

My WiFi works but in the notification bar it keeps showing me WiFi available even though I checked that box in Wifi setting not to notify me of that. Anyone else has that problem?

That's normal. The notification setting I think you are referring to is for a separate notification that appears every time you open an app with WiFi off.
