Streaming Netflix - Screen Resolution or Reception?

I'm testing out all aspects of my Rezound before my 14 days are up with VZW.

I decided to stream a show on Netflix to test out video on this phone. Whether I stream it on Wifi (at 18-22DL, ping 59) or on 4G (currently 10-12DL at home, ping 61) the stream is somewhat pixelating. Yes, it streams, but it's not as crisp or clear as streaming on the Samsung Galaxy SII or the Gnex (when they got reception).

Anyone else test this out? Is it the connection speed? The ping time? Or the screen resolution itself?

Is the content your are streaming available in HD? I have noticed that if the show or movie is not available in HD the picture is a pixelating also but it could also be a through-put issue also. From my understanding, even on mobile, Netflix will start out at a lower quality and then step it up until it reaches what it feels is the best level for how fast it can download and stream the content.

I just tested it on an HD show...it's better, but when there's fast action on screen (e.g., running), it pixelates a bit still. Never did that on the Samsung android, which is why I asked if it's possibly a screen rez issue.

Still pixelating, and audio/video is a bit out of sync. Apparently, this is not a new issue with HTC.

I've watched hours and hours of movies and shows on Netflix, along with a lot of YouTube and the only time I have issues is when I'm having signal issues. Over WiFi I haven't had any issues. I'm on a wireless G network. I also notice that you posted another thread about having signal issues. Maybe you got a dud? It happens. It'd be nice if you knew someone with one that you could compare yours to and see if there is a difference.

FWIW, I've never encountered pixelation on my Rez. Be it HD content on Netflix or Epix, streamig over 4g. I've had buffering troubles on Crackle and Youube but few and far between. If you experience pixelation, I would not rush to judgement on a screen issue until you download an entire movie onto SD and then playback. If it happens when not streaming online, then it is a valid issue worrh swapping out over.

IIRC I remember seeing someone on XDA saying that the Netflix version for the Rezound never actually streams a true HD resolution (the 720P our screens are capable of). I honestly can't say anything about the truth of it though.

I haven't tried streaming anything on my phone in a while. With my GF away in London for a semester I'm mostly either at work or somewhere where I don't use Netflix for entertainment.

usually, the first few seconds when I start a stream, it is a little pixelated, but after that, it is fine.

I only have pixelation rarely, probably when the signal is a bit iffy but then it clears up quickly and lasts for most of the viewing. That's not an issue for me.

However, all the content I've watched seems to be in SD resolution. I've heard the stock Netflix app on the Market isn't HD capable, and you need to get a special version of the Netflix APK probably ripped from another Android phone like the Nexus or RAZR I heard. That's my only complaint about Netflix on the phone.

HD Netflix App - xda-developers

That's where I saw it, and I'm glad I'm not the only person who mentioned it in this thread. Gave me the motivation to look it up again haha

I will note that it worked for me on GB, but apparently does NOT want to work on Scrosler's Senseless ICS ROM.

No FC notification or error produced, app won't start.

Does anyone have a fix or work-around for the audio/video sync issue on the Netflix app? I just streamed again on my swapped Rezound, and it's doing it again.

If the audio isn't synced w/ the viewing content it's the connection. I have experienced this using Epix & Netflix and most often while using Crackle. Which really doesn't bother me much, most people seem to go ape over it, though. Just for ish and giggles, try the free Crackle movie app from the market. Try streaming a movie over 4g & 3g on your Rez and see if the pixelation issue happens It maxxes out at 480p but it looks better than that while viewing. I can almost guarantee audio sync problems but it never pixelates for me while streaming.

I was streaming Netflix over Wifi with the audio/video sync issues. Doesn't happen with my Xbox Netflix on the same network...

I can't believe anyone actually watches that many hours of streaming anything on a 4 inch screen where it would make a difference. Get a tablet at least.

Ever ride a bus or a train? It happens sometimes.

Then again there's also the nice little ability to hook the Rezound up to a TV and play Netflix that way.

I can appreciate the sentiment, but your efforts would be better spent elsewhere. People come to communities like this looking for help, not assumptions and derision about where they choose to watch their entertainment. Hope you can understand it's nothing personal.
