How to stop phone from looking for new OTA? Phone awake 100%

I noticed the last few days, that "HtcDm" has been keeping my phone awake 100% of the time under the battery stats. I did some research online and it seems this is a process that has to do with searching for updates. I finally got the pop up this morning to "defer" the OTA. I did, but I'm wondering if there's anyways to actually reject the update rather than just "defering" it to a different date.

Any help appreciated.

Essentially, HTC DM= Download Manager. As far as updates, defer till you can't. Install an ICS ROM to avoid any update notifications, To keep it from installing, debloat. It'll still download but it can"t install if the bloat is gone.

If you're going to root your phone this is the time to do it. This OTA is the most persistent S.O.B. I've ever seen. I was rooted and running a custom ROM that was close enough to stock that the OTA kept trying to download every time I rebooted the phone. I found the file path, deleted it, renamed the OTAcert file...nothing stopped the stupid thing. It's like the Terminator of updates...It can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pain, and it absolutely will not stop until your phone has more bloatware and is worse than it was before it updated.

The only way I got it to stop was to flash Scott's CleanROM 1.6.5 which has the version number updated and the OTA (or parts of it I believe) baked in.

My advice, before you let the update install, unlock and root your phone, pick a ROM that doesn't have the issue and you'll be done. As I said, Scotts CleanROM 1.6.5 will take care of it and its basically stock with some back-end enhancements and the bloat removed...you can always add it back if you want stuff like VZNavigator and the rest.

Or any of the ICS ROMs will do the trick as well. Read up on those though...some are better than others.

From what I understand, HtcDm is what seeks out updates for HTC widgets & apps. It has nothing to do with the OTA.
With that said, I think I have a clue as to which process begins the OTA. Last night around 1am, my phone notified me of the OTA. I waited for the damn firmware to finish downloading so I could get to the defer screen and calendar. When I got to it, it crashed as soon as I started picking a date.
I forget the exact process, but as I recall from the force stop screen, it was something along the lines of "htc.redbend", which I've never even seen.

I'm not 100% but when I put in "HtcDm" and "100% wake" in google and did some reading, most people indicated that's what it was, so that's why I mentioned it, I don't know for sure either. After the OTA downloaded this morning and I was able to defer the update, I "Force Stopped" that process, and my 100% awake problem has stopped and I'm seeing normal use like I had before this started happening.

You can freeze HtcDm if you'd like. There's no real adverse effects on your phone.
If for some reason you want to search for updates for your widgets or apps, just defrost the process. You can do all that in less than a few seconds with Titanium Backup.

From what I read, HTCDM is basically, the app that is called upon for UI personalizations. If you want to add any widgets, shortcuts etc.,. or if you utilize any app or widget from the desktop. This service is what updates/manages those tasks. Which is why it's always seen in running services

If you're referring com.redband.smwc, and the xda link I read is true. It's a piece of software that tracks user usage, cookie-esque tracking. I presume that is the app. that is reaponsible for generating crap like personalized advertising content.
