Default Now is the time for a decision

I know there are going to be threads like this everywhere, but let's go with a ReZound one.

The SGSIII is officially coming to Verizon. It is the latest and greatest good screen, ram forever, storage, battery....blah blah blah...we know the specs.

The ReZound is still one of the better phones on VZW. Rock solid in most aspects. ICS around the corner (and it is good).

The kickers on the SGSIII....with it coming to all 5 carriers, development is going to be INSANE. ROMs everywhere and sharing across the board....

Then there is the ultimate problem. We are set to lose unlimited data sometime soon. If you buy the phone now, you can take it for two years before you have to really worry about it AND the hardware should hold up for the next 2 years.

Where are you leaning? At first blush, i am leaning on jumping ship to keep the data and to cure my flashing habits.

    Discuss....

    Samsung? Ah hahahaha!
Oh wait, people haven't learned their lesson on garbage radios?

Until I see consistently good radios from Samsung, I won't be buying Samsung phones.

I know I'll have one probably by year's end. The other thing to keep in mind is that this is a Samsung phone and they certainly aren't known for the strength of their CDMA radios. I'm rocking the Gnex now and it is like 20dbm lower EVERYWHERE than my Rezound was. Thankfully I've learned with how to cope and reception is good enough everywhere I need to be, but I think that should be the caveat to how great the SGSIII could be. Great phone, mind the radios.

i am in total agreement about the radios. I went through it with the Fassy and to a much lesser extent with the Charge. Even though the Charge was better, it is no where near as good as the ReZound.

The only thing I can say is that until we can see it in the real world on VZW, we cannot condemn it as junk...yet

I'll probably open a new line with one just to get in before the axe drops on data plans. I would love to be able to see and decisively know when HTC & Verizon plan on releasing their answer to the One X this fall/winter but the corporate axe will have dropped by then. In all likelihood, anyhow. I do not look forward to shelling out $700 to those fiends at any point in the future just to keep my curent plan. Personally, I have yet to use a phone worth full retail price and I don't expect the SGIII to be the one that does it.

Then join me in my passage across time and space because I know that once my plan is up and I can no longer trade people for current gen devices, I'm going to the Google Store, buying one of the many unlocked Nexii and going GSM on whichever carrier offers me the most for the least amount of money(probably straight talk)

I'm on board, captain. $400 is what I spent on a PS3 on its release. The phone I have cost somewhere near the same. One of those items is sitting under my TV collecting dust.

All I know is the SGSIII better be the BEST phone ever and for years to come, because that thing is plastered all over the front page and the web. I feel like if I see one more announcement on it I'm going to punch someone in the face and then vomit on them.

The SGS3,as well as the Moto RAZR MAXX HD, will probably be the first "Bait" phones offered by Verizon where you have to surrender your unlimited data plan to get the discounted upgrade price. If so than these phones are dead to me.

I recently sold my PS3 for that same reason. I still had Linux installed on it(If that tells you how long I've had it). I'm looking at the phone situation as $400 for my freedom...I'll pay it.

Oh, wow. That was before the old hacking fiasco of last year, when Sony patched up the Other OS feature. I joined the "PC Master Race" a few months ago, and the benefits of PC gaming are too great to give up now.

Haha..that's what people accuse me of. But I never updated. I never played online so I could care less. But that's enough thread hijacking. Back to your regularly scheduled programming. When last we tuned in Piizzadude was weighing the pros and cons of the SGSIII. Will it measure up..?? The only way to know is to stay tuned true believers.

It looks like a great phone on paper but beyond that I can't tell. It might beat the rezound but I'm not going to get it just make sure i keep my unlimited as long as I can unless i sell it after i get it...

I really just wanna see the S4 in the SGIII in my hand for some "real world" use. Those benchmarks look nice on paper but I toyed with an Evo 4G LTE display unit on Sat. I was impressed w/ it overall. It is a bit snappier in a number of aspects but it was anything but a landslide over the S3 in the Rez running a Sense 4 rom based on my time with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the S4 integrated with the LTE chip?
If so, I'm very, very, very curious to see how that is on battery life. If the new Droid packs an S4 along with a Razr Maxx type of battery, it's gonna have insane longevity on a single charge.

I didn't get to see the new Evo on their LTE network, it was on wifi, no LTE signal in-store. Not exactly an ideal situation when LTE is a selling point. Your right the "?Fighter?" would definitely set the bar, really high for battery life, if it has @ Maxx-esque battery outta the box. That's probably the only selling point that would put another Moto in my pocket again.

That might be the only selling point for any OEM, period.
Every high end phone from here on out is going to have 4G, large HD screen, and ICS. I don't see anything separating the competition anytime soon.

Im considering getting an S3. The price seems good and it might be the last great smartphone before they destroy the unlimited plans. Im actually pretty happy with my Rezound, been running ICS on it for awhile. But im a sucker for the specs, the speed and screen on the S3 are puuuurty.

We have a few spare upgrades, eh Im gonna wait and see what people think of the first batch before I make up my mind.

Build quality. Camera hardware / software. Radios. Screen tech (not all HD screens are the same). Those are still selling points. Maybe not for the average consumer, but for people frequenting these boards, they would be looking for those differentiating factors.

And as we already know, we're the vocal minority.
Also, I'm not sure how many people would hinge their decisions based on what type of HD screen or how good the camera is either. It factors into the grand scheme of things, but I'm not seeing Nexus vs Rezound vs Spectrum battles come down to what type of HD screen they used. I'll give you the camera bit, but those type of people end up buying iPhones

I'll tell you who will go for the "best", people like us, other technology enthusiasts, people that do research before they make a multi-hundred dollar purchase, but mostly the latter. They tend to be hardcore.

Interesting so far. I guess I am still sitting on the fence. I am sitting here thinking I can eat a very reasonable 249 without issue to squeak in before they mess with the data. If it doesn't pan out, I can sell it off on eBay for that price or even more or sell off my 2 month old rezound to defray the costs.

How far will the rezzy take me as opposed to the sgslll. If they would announce how hard they are going to bend us over with the data and when, it would make things easier.

True. The whole "well, consider the radios, camera, and..." thing is long gone, and in its place is heavy marketing. If people really cared about superior hardware, everyone would own a Rezound.
