Can movies rented thru the play store be played on something other than google movie app? Google movie app apparently doesn't work on a rooted phone due to copyright regulations

Nope. I'm afraid you're gonna have to be treated like a pirate just for rooting.
Wanna get rid of that bloatware but also rent Fantastic Mr. Fox? Well too bad, because you're obviously just using bloat as an excuse to violate copyrights.

Only problem there is that you might download a copy of Avatar and end up with a copy of 2 girls, 1 cup. It's a crapshoot, literally.

But you know what? I will take 10% of my 2g1c to be able to take the movie I paid for where I want. I do not download movies I do not own....
